I hear you. I said earlier that we are at a tipping point. Not just for this country but for the world as we are seeing a lurch towards authoritarianism. The Founders were aware of this danger and as they said "We have a republic if you can keep it." The machinery of government is only as good as the people who are running it. As much as the Founders feared a partisan impeachment they also feared partisanship leading to tyranny. In the end it is still up us the people to address this..
I would point out to Senator Alexander that only two Democrats voted against impeachment and one Republican voted for it. For his principled stand he was forced out of the party. Partisanship goes both ways. If Alexander acknowledges the president did wrong yet will acquit him because other Republicans aren't willing to convict then who is really the partisan?
please re-read. I used Ann Coulter’s soapbox as an example to agree with what Dobro was saying regarding the right’s adversity to demographic change. I also stated I don’t subscribe to her view.
What a waste of time this impeachment sham has been. This was orchestrated starting from the day Trump was elected. A totally partisan hack in Eric Ciamarella submitted this, and CNN/HuffPo/MSNBC propelled it to where liberals were brainwashed, truly thinking they had something. Nope. Just another liberal failure, as was the "Kavanaugh rape story", the Russian hoax, and now the failed removal of Trump from office. If the media wasn't so biased towards the democrats, the American public would realize what a failure the democratic party has been of late.
No one takes you seriously, why even post? Liberal failure is bullshit, it's pretty much party over country and when the shoe is on the other foot you'll be crying wolf.
No worries. Yeah again the changing of voter demographics has alot to do with many things other than just strictly race. The Trump voter base's primary motivational factor is the blanket term "Culture Wars" or Culture Change which is certainly driven by demographic changes. Some real, some just perceived (hence Fox "war on" propaganda). Some folks on the left go overboard with political correctness which gives material for the right to push divisive propaganda like this, but it typically comes from society wanting to accept in good faith those demographic changes. EX: maybe 20 years ago in a city like Friendswood, or the Woodlands 95% of people that lived there were Christian so just saying Merry Christmas was not thought about twice, but now with the suburbs having more diversity, you don't know if that person you are saying Merry Christmas to is Jewish, Muslim, Atheist or whatnot. There's no "War on Christmas", it's just a cultural adjustment to be more accepting. Doesn't mean those who are pissed because they can't say "Merry Christmas" anymore are anti-semites. But they have let FoxNews for 20 years tell them they should be pissed off at liberals, George Soros, etc. because it's our fault for the change in your life & they have convinced FoxNews watchers that there is political power manipulation & political conspiracy at play by the left so it's time to fight back to not lose your voting power. When in reality all that has happened is younger people have moved to the cities, pricing has risen in proportion, and more diverse families have moved to the suburbs.... causing changing of demographics in those areas like Friendswood and the Woodlands, etc. I understand why FoxNews watchers over the years have become the way they have become and thought in 2016 Donald Trump was their best last hope. I just vehemently believe they are wrong, and have been manipulated out of fear of something they shouldn't be afraid of.
Interesting watching the remaining republican senators votes on witnesses filter out yesterday and today. Four yes votes were needed, and I wouldn't be surprised if the group directly or indirectly determined which one "no" vote could happen, sparing the other three from the effects. It will be interesting to see if two or even three vote yes, with the retiring lamar alexander jumping on the handgrenade for the others. So far, the weakest of the four (collins) voted yes. And romney appears to be voting yes. It would be surprising to see murkowski vote yes too, I recklon depending if the additional wildcard (whether roberts has indicated whether he will step in an break the 50-50 tie... if he won't, she votes yes. If he might... she votes no, thinking her senate seat is safe enough).
I guarantee you , had the Dems taken the time to fight it in court , the EP's would have been overturned - on precedent - from the Nixon impeachment. They just chose to use that as a second article of impeachment which was downright silly because they didn't exhaust the remedies available to them and Trump took advantage of it. They tried to spin it as time sensitive but that doesn't fly when they waited a month to send the articles to the Senate. It would have been expedited thru the courts and they would have forced testimony without a doubt - Just like the Nixon impeachment. Really makes me think the Dems wanted the GOP to do exactly what they we expect them to do after closing arguments in having no further witnesses so they can say the whole thing was rigged / a cover up and use that come election time to try and take the Senate majority. They knew they weren't getting a conviction so the motive for impeachment wasn't removal of Trump right now and it damn sure wasn't upholding / protecting the constitution , both parties **** on it every chance they get - but helping the chances of ousting him and winning the Senate majority come election time. They don't have this ammunition to use against the Senate come election time if they go the censure route which likely would have drawn bipartisan support. They were playing the long game and probably a sound strategy. Now they have the Senate complicit in covering for Trump and dirt on Trump too .... Now all they have to do is figure out who to nominate for the GE.
Agreed. It was always about putting the impeachment articles into the historical record, and making sure Trump knew there is a price to pay for being an open criminal in the White House. I think the Dems achieved the first objective with a high amount of success. History will look back kindly at them & those articles will hold up well. It's kind of why I'm not terribly dissapointed the Republicans are rigging the trial without any witnesses. I think the public was likely about to get exhausted by Impeachment soon, and of course everyone would just blame the Democrats for doing their job. Will it further deter Trump though? Probably not. I think he'll cheat again, and worse next time. However I think the public backlash if he gets caught again will finally start to drive the public against him. At some point the general public (60% or slightly more) will say enough is enough. There will be no impeachment wall, and the public will look squarely at Republicans in Congress and FoxNews who coddled him.
I am putting the odds of Trump doing more illegal things at 99.999%, the chance of him getting caught again i would put at 40%.
I guess I just don't have as much faith in the American public as you do. Have you ever watched a Trump rally? Pissin' off the liburals is literally the only thing these fools care about. If you have to break the law to do it....who cares?
Yeah, I'm really shocked at how Barr has completely locked down the DOJ in short order. Look at the Lev Parnas situation as an example. He would have rather gone public and hoped for public sentiment to help him in the long run rather than become a cooperating witness given how petrified he is that Barr would destroy him to shut him up. Nobody is talking anymore in regards to the dozen or so cases that were referred from the Mueller probe. I really doubt anyone at the NSA/CIA is lining up to be the next Whistleblower either given how the Republicans and Trump have tried to ruin that persons life, and likely they'll be emboldened next time to take it up a notch on the threat scale. I have little faith in the media either except that they might be the last wall of defense. You have Bezos inviting Jarrod & Ivanka over to his house for parties and whatnot. That's doesn't really give you a wonderful feeling about the independence of outlets like the Washington Post. Then there's Trump's newfound abuse of power with using Classification for everything. Bolton's book being classified??... That's insane, but I think Trump found a new toy in the government to abuse so expect more of the same.
Yeah notice I said 60% in reference to "public backlash". Meaning there is 30 to 35% that are just gone. It's pretty astounding that 50+% were consistently backing impeachment & removal. That other 10 percent though still matters, and I think that if he gets caught yet again then many folks in that 10% won't have Dems to blame and will say good lord... again??
