I think there's just no way possible to improve this team by that much by swapping something good we have with something good we don't while also ducking the tax, i wish that would be possible, but realistically? Eh, i wouldn't hold my breath. We should've take on more salary in one of the trades we made in the last two years, now we would be easily in that position. If we're going to give up PJ or Clint to get a Covington tier of player, it's possible the team would ultimately come out stronger if in another minor trade we would get a decent plyer to replace PJ/Clint, but we aren't getting another PJ/Clint to replace them, i have a feeling in that scenario we might end up looking at a Ariza -> House kind of replacement so, yeah, team overall a bit stronger, but not as much as some of us think/wish, imo at least.
Brown looks good ( on the stats sheet , ill admit ive never seen him play outside of vs us) , but hes played the 2nd most games for them this year, is only 20, and was a 15 overall pick. I bet WAS is still pretty high on him.
Totally agree. That's why I say if Morey can somehow do it anyway, it'll be his finest hour. Realistically, though, the time to set us up for winning a title this year began the moment CP3's hammy blew up in the WCF a couple of years ago. Make some smart moves and you might just get a trophy or two. Instead, Tilman buys the team a few months later and we proceed in the exact opposite direction.
Yep, i'd still trade two 1st rounders for him if he would be available, i think, i just don't see the Rockets being able to get a better player (all things considered) without also giving up a core piece tbh...so, i'd rather have Capela, Tucker and Brown over Noel, Tucker, Covington or Capela, Covington, House. The combination of Capela, Tucker, Brown gives us the best mix of lenght, chemistry, age, upside, and assets for a potential deal going forward imo.
I can't comment on Brown , given i really havent watched him . But, i think you have the right approach. We need to find another piece without giving up a core guy.... that limits the salary we can take in , so the number of situations becomes smaller. I think ( like you) its best to go for a younger guy ( this is partially due to salary) who hasnt fully broken out yet ( so the price isnt too high). Personally , since ive heard of him lol , give me bogdanovic if we are talking 2 firsts . He's probably not gonna be a great defender ever, but he can already shoot and is better this year. He will be an RFA so we have some option of recouping the cost of trading for him at that time ( of course we can keep too ) In your thoughts of trying to get someone still pretty unproven , Memphis has a couple of guys .
I also want to say i'm loving this thread lately, i'm a guy who loves to think/imagine trade scenarios etc, and i love how we're trying to find potential good deals for us even if we're in a shitty situation...having also Bima, ch and Cod chiming in lately made it even better.
It's also great not having Holic bludgeon us in every trade thread with his vast wellspring of never-wrong opinions.
Yeah i agree, i have to say i also miss Holic though, i still had fun reading his posts when they weren't made to boost his narratives (like on Capela, Rubio and some other stuff). And thinking about this now...Holic would've a pretty big follow on the "trade Capela" argument as today i can also already see him tweet like "i always knew it, it's not about ducking the tax but they never thought Capela was good" if/once Capela gets traded lol.
Trade Harden for Ben Simmons and Horford. Trade Capela to Boston. Trade WB to Miami for Dragic+ Johnson +filler. Morey can figure out the math. New era.
I’ve grown so tired of this thread. It’s all the same old crap. Gone are the days of an interesting random trade thread. The Rockets have no flexibility. They traded their two most valuable picks in the cp3 trade. F all of our lives.
They still had plenty of ammunition post CP3 trade .... They dumped literally everything to avoid the tax. As worthless as Ryno was .... Sure would be nice to have his expiring $20m contract on the books today along with Melton and first / second round picks they used to dump Chriss and Knight. Since they did dump Ryno , they could have at least held Knight for this years trade deadline and had that #1 pick in hand .... Since they did dump Knight and that #1 pick for Shumpert .... they should have kept that contract on the books for salary matching. Instead they let the bird rights go to waste. Would be nice if they had used the the MLE for more than Hartenstein last year .... this year they used some on House and the rest will rot. Sure would have been nice to take back salary in the Westbrook deal - a $10m contract would really help them right now in salary matching. 5 TPE's about to expire .... Nene's contract is about to get dumped to duck the tax instead of improving the roster. Where's that image of Ferntits holding up the Luxury Tax Savings jersey ?
#1Trade Tyson, GGreen, SRP + cash to SAC for Harry Giles. #2Trade Nene + SRP for Jonah Bolden. #3Sign Jeff Green. #4Multi Team Trade: BOS: Capela, Thabo MIN: Smart, House HOU: Covington, RWilliams, Okogie Russ/Rivers/Clemons Harden/EGo/Okogie Tucker/Howard/McLemore Covington/JGreen Giles/Bolden/Williams/Hartenstein
And as much as I love yours, still love mine better. Trade#1 NYK: 2 Rockets FRP, Nene, Tucker MIN: Dennis Smith, Kevin Knox, Gerald Green HOU: Robert Covington, Josh Okogie Trade#2 BOS: Clint Capela, DJ Augustin, Danuel House, Ben McLemore ORL: Gordon Hayward, Carsen Edwards HOU: Aaron Gordon, Robert Williams, Wes Iwundu Brodie/Rivers/Clemons Beard/EGo/Okogie RoCo/Iwundu AG/Howard Lob Williams/Hartenstein/Tyson Can still pick up buyout and/or sign Jeff Green/trade SRP for Jonah Bolden or Harry Giles. With Bolden or Giles as center, entire starting 5 can pass/create or shoot 3. Double teaming Harden would be a thing of the past.
I like everything about this... mostly we save our FRP to package with Gordon in the offseason. Our next coach would have a lot to work with. Good job. Morey has a lot of work to do to make all of this happen.
Is it time to part ways with Tucker? His value is low at the moment because of injury but to get any kind of return on him now is the time or very soon. He wants to get paid and the risk it to high for any thing over year to year, IMO. The offseason is going to be wild. Gordon, Tucker & 2 FRP (26 million in cap space) For A difference maker
