That's kinda interesting to be honest. Target scores. I'd be interested to see it in the regular season too lol
dang how do you set the over/under total for that cool idea. fyi. I believe The Basketball Tournament uses this target score for their games
Did I understand it right? So, if a team loses all 3 quarters and then ends up losing the game, the grand total donated to charity for that team, is a whopping $0?
If one team wins each of the first three quarters and reaches the Final Target Score first, $500,000 will be donated to the winning team’s charity $100,000 will be donated to the losing team’s charity.
The new format is great. The first 3 quarters don't matter at all and are only for charity and only in the 4rth the NBA tells players to basically get serious and play defence.
I guess i'm in the minority not feeling all the rules. The charity part is OK, but the Q4 rule thing seems tacky, gimmicky. Basketball game, basketball rules. Shutting off the game clock. Changing it for tv ratings so audience remember to tune back in for Q4. I know it's an all-star game, but it's still a b-ball game. It's pure, why can't audience appreciate the beauty as is. At least they aren't plastering Sponsor ads on the All-Star uni for a quick buck. As far as tributes to Kobe, his wife started a fund for the families of the people who died; that should be one of the charities for the All-Star game.
But what beauty? The last All Star games I have watced were incredibly crappy Some showboating, a few artificial highlights and players standing there and shooting uncontested jumpers. Is that Beauty? You can hardly call that basketball. There is more excitement in watching a high school game. At least there players will be trying.
i for one don't care for the "beauty" of 200 pts game on each side. this at least adds some reasons to not be that type of game at the end. the AS game isn't actually an nba bball game. its a all out pick up game
What pickup game you know does this? "The Final Target Score will be determined by taking the leading team’s total cumulative score through three quarters and adding 24 points"
I posted this in this thread. TBT does this in their yearly tournament. it actually works pretty well for them. I doubt many people watch much of this though. it's filled with ex pros/overseas players
