Yup....... let the completely over the top praise and insincere congratulations begin. Crane help up his part of the bargain and now he will be told what a magnificent person he is and how the Astros are ON THE RIGHT PATH! The happiest person with the Astros? Osuna....... Dusty has interesting opinions on domestic violence.
I would have just stuck with Espada as the interim & re-evaluate in a year. (That's what this is anyways). Did MLB tell them no?
A J Hinch was overrated as a manager, he had the best team in baseball the last 3 years, and underachieved in my opinion, he has tons of presence, great style, projects competence and confidence; but didn't like his lineups, thought the offense underachieved based upon poor lineups, hitting order, and hated his decisions in game 7 - he choked under the pressure in the world series. And that stuff about sign stealing in the Yankees series, just makes you think the guy is full of ****, gets by on style, and little substance when you dig deeper. Easy to look good running out the Astros roster last 3 years. And his chicken **** trying to cover his ass response to MLB regarding stopping the sign stealing, please take control of the clubhouse if you are the manager. The buck stops with him!
I don't think that the commissioner's office told Crane no, but he isn't an idiot..... it was laid out to him and what the league wanted happened to also be what was in the best interest of Crane and the Astros. I will be interested in seeing if Baker convinced his platonic husband to join his staff. Espada was a no go because of his connection to the existing team.
Yes. Dusty was trying to get him added to the staff. The guy apparently has been the bench coach with Dusty on 3 different teams and they have lived together and room together on the road.
AJ likely back after 1 year. I believe all the candidates wanted go beyond 1 year. With Baker, it would be fitting that he wins with Astros and get good national publicity then let Hinch back. One telling sign if Hinch is back or not, does he move out of Houston? If this is the plan for the Astros, if so Crane hit a HR.
I'm more worried about they handle the mental challenge next season. But yes, managers have very little to do with the outcome.
Yep. If Dusty flops with this roster then you move on and get Bochy, or bring back Hinch if that’s palatable 10 months from now.
I would say that’s generally true, however in postseason baseball the manager affects the outcome much more so with pitching changes. See Game 7 of the WS.
There’s no chance Hinch is an Astro again. I’d fire Dusty Baker right now and hire Hinch again to the delight of the media but in the real world forget seeing AJ in the Astros dugout.
