I have always had a huge soft spot for the Giants (Uncle to me to the bay when I was young saw a game there and an A’s game) so knee jerk reaction is awesome but I thought he bowed out

I actually think it makes sense to hire a manager first. Spring training is weeks away, and they need someone to lead the team. Most of the candidates mentioned are experienced older managers, who can step in immediately and bring a sense of legitimacy to the position. They're also people that the Astros probably wouldn't have any issues moving on from after the season if the new GM wants his own guy. Whoever the GM is will likely have access to the entirety of the Astros intellectual property and will make moves in the draft and at the trade deadline that will shape the future of the Astros. Unless they go with Putila on an interim basis, it seems pretty likely that whoever is hired will be here for a few years at minimum, and there's less urgency, so the whole process should be more thorough and take longer.

Buck is so opposed to the use of analytics in baseball so he's not coming here

I’ve seen biggio thrown around , but wasn’t it bagwell that was always thought of as the clubhouse leader?

I’d be down for bagwell or Berkman . Those guys seems like they could help the players have fun .... which according to Eric Gordon (at least) is very important

In that case roll with him if the team is comfortable with him let's just play ball.

Unless Crane can change Bochy’s mind, I’d hire Espada. He’s a long-time bench coach and has been with the Astros for the past two seasons. You have to figure he learned valuable tips from Hinch on how to manage the Astros’ clubhouse, and he’s comfortable with the team’s belief and reliance on analytics. Also, he already has relationships built with the players.

if Espada was with the Yankees with Beltran, and here the first half of 18 when we were still cheating, I see know way we hire him

not saying he was overly involved or anything, but like it or not perception matters to Crane right now

Wouldn't mind Showalter. He's the Andy Reid of MLB. Deserves one last shot at a ring. We have the talent, and he has a good track record.
