I just said good luck which means it's difficult to outrun a knife attack. My comment was about how fast knife attacks are. There is no comparison made between the speed of knife attacks and AR15 bullets. Not once did I say it is easier or harder, or anything was faster or slower. You are seriously off on the way you interpret what you read. Maybe stop trying to put your personal bias on everything. But I know you're old so it's hard. And that's why I said good luck. You're likely over weight and old, so I doubt you'd be able to outrun an edge-based attack. My overall position is actually that edge-based attacks are fast, dangerous, and you'd still need a gun to deal with it without putting yourself in harm's way. Not that bullets are faster than knives. Seriously, no one actually thinks that.
I had to pull my gun on a couple of kids trying to rob me at work on Saturday, and I think the argument that this validates guns is stupid. Where do criminals get guns? They dont have underground factories churning them out to sell to criminals. Soviet Izmash isnt exporting illegal AK47s to the us to empower the Communist insurgency. Criminals have guns, because they get them from the ecosystem selling guns to law abiding citizens, who get them because they need to protect themselves from criminals with guns, who only have guns because there are so many out there for people protecting themselves. Which is why people need guns to protect themselves. Circular argument ensues. Every illegal handgun uses to comit a crime was once a legal gun, baring a vanishingly small number of zip guns
The idea that a black market won't be used is insane. Look at the cartels in Mexico. They'd gladly move arms up. In fact THERE IS A BLACK MARKET FOR WEAPONS. We don't need them to be made in the USA or obtained from legal vendors. I live in a place where guns are extremely regulated and citizens have to use bats usually to defend themselves, but there are plenty of illegal weapons floating around. Despite these laws. Do you know what you do against criminals? Pray to God they aren't the ones with guns and just hope for the best with your bludgeon. Prohibition is a great example. It empowers criminal groups to ban things, and banning weapons empowers them with a black market financially, and from an arms standpoint because they will be the one's with the weapons while everyone else must submit. We'd devolve into Mexico overtime because of the insane type of people living in our country. This is not some high-education western European country with generations of peaceful society.
All of which came out of the legal US market or were stolen from the legal Mexican military (who get their guns from legal arms manufacturers in the US). You also live in a place where you can cross a completely uncontrolled border and purchase a gun via straw purchase in a state where guns aren't extremely regulated and then drive back across the border.
that said, one of the dead was pulling out a pistol, too slowly (prior to any shots fired). Who knows if the gunmen even shoots without the first victim pulling a gun out..maybe the poor second victim (minding his business) doesn't die.
There are other markets for obtaining arms. China would love to flood Mexico with guns, as would Russia probably if the US just stopped making guns. Just to make money and to further erode our power. There will always be guns. You can't just get rid of guns. That's some fantasy land nonsense. Idealism is not healthy.
maybe I'm misunderstanding your point, HP, but that seems like a fairly speculative (and unlikely) what if
yeah I'm sure the dude in the trench coat didn't mean nothin' by it. But you raise an interesting point nonetheless! That idiot drew too slow and telegraphed it. He could have cost the man his life in this what if scenario. But it is likely that guy would have blasted both. Hell, maybe he said something to indicate he intended to shoot them. We just don't know regarding this huge what if scenario.
Actually over the last decade, the states with the most restrictive gun laws have had far lower cases of firearm death. There is an exception with Arizona, but even with Arizona, once the age of the resident is figured in, their death by firearms rate is higher than those states with the strictest laws. Crime and poverty play a part but there does appear to be a strong component with easy of getting fire arms as well.
Its not where they get guns. Its wherever they get guns, it isn't affected by gun laws. Its a very real and big discontent in the conversation
Name me one mass shooting where the murderer bought the gun from a secret Yakuza underground gun market or traded a kilo of heroin for one at a Costa Nostra swap meet. I'm sure John Wick will still get guns. I'm concerned about the friendless drooling mouth breathers who are mad because "The Jews" are to blame for their shity life and can't think of anything else to do.
Everyday criminals are absolute morons. From experience, they get their cousin to go buy a gun from EZ Pawn, or they break into a legal gun owner's home and steal it. Drug dealers trade drugs for junkies' legal guns. If you put the slightest obstacle in front of them they'd get frustrated and quit looking. There isnt some secret petty crime club that you can join to get get the password to the criminal club house to get your guns, and open a 501k with the crime union.
You think mass shooters are deterred by that? The Sutherland Springs shooter was shot by a good guy with a gun. Not to mention Texas isn't shy about using the death penalty. The vast majority of mass shootings end in the shooter's death.
If you want to stop a river flowing, you dam it upstream, and then the river stops trickling down. The us government banned new legal machine guns in 1986. The next day, nothing had changed. You could still buy one on a Form 4 for a couple hundred dollars. Time went by. Now, thirty some years later, that $200 machine gun is very difficult to locate and will cost you $20,000. The existing supply wears out or breaks. People who buy them either buy huge-ass safes or store them somewhere else, in a protected location. With a trained machinist and lots of work, I could make you an illegal machine gun, but people don't do that in practice because it is too much work. Machine guns exist and criminals can make one but in practical terms, they are irrelevant to any type of crime.
