You’re really going to turn this into something, huh? At this point, they do have to advance to a conference title game or have a good showing in the second round to keep this coaching staff going forward. Most thought the tougher schedule would take care of this team... but they’re not complying by winning double digit games. it’s bullshit that this city has had a super bowl or bust mentality for a lot of teams that weren’t ever that good. The Schaub era was the closest till now, and half the complaints were about him or how predictable the offense is. This is the first season that any Texans team actually defeated multiple elite franchises and probably should have beaten New Orleans. They’ve also laid some duds as well (as have all the elite teams minus Baltimore). if you waste enough effort complaining about everything that is wrong with this team... you do miss out on the positives. They’re not a “must miss” watch every week. They’re not an elite franchise yet either.
Not at all. BoB is by all measures a bad Head Coach and offensive mind. That's it. We've all seen it. Full stop.
The reason those of us b**** and moan about it is because it’s COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE AND COMMON SENSE CLOCK MANAGEMENT DECISIONS. He also called a pretty **** game offensively, but that’s another story all together.
Since this has turned into a BoB argument... To me it wouldn’t matter what coach it was. It could be Bill Belichik. If he did that it would be a bad decision too. O’Brien is far too average and stubborn in many other areas to continually make stupid mistakes with clock management. (Whether they are trivial or inconsequential is irrelevant, bc he’s made plenty of mistakes in that area that were relevant.) The small things can separate the good teams from the great teams. Like O’Brien always says: “It’s an 8-8 league.”
I don’t hate O’Brien or think he is a bad coach, but he is unbearably stubborn and his clock management leaves a lot to be desired. The Texans usually play close games, and in the playoffs that can cost you big time. 28 seconds is enough time for elite quarterbacks. Just ask Cowboys fans how that playoff game against the Packers turned out a few years ago. If I remember correctly that game winning FG drive was around 30 seconds or left. It’s not an exact comparison but you should understand the point. Just because the punter bailed him out doesn’t excuse the clock management error.
Can always rely on BoB to look pretty shtty at winning games. U Pretty much have to b a total homer to look at this BoB team and think legit super bowl contender.
Okay fair enough my bad. Since well actually guy started saying stupid things about having a timeout left I made it a personal mission to point out how stupid it was to not kneel in general, be it BoB or anyone else.
He's not, actually. There was 1:27 on the clock. You snap the ball and wait a second and kneel. That takes 2 seconds + the 40 second run off. That leaves 1 second when you get to 4th down. And then you just kneel again and game is over.
They played 8 backup QBs this season, including all 6 division games. They faced 3 rookies making their 1st or 2nd career start. All 3 division opponents played backup QBs for most of the year, with the one good team playing a backup QB the whole year. Again, consistently winning the most mediocre division in football simply makes them slightly-better-than-mediocre. That's it - they are no closer to being good than they were several years ago. They're still going to get dominated in the playoffs if they face BAL/KC and maybe NE. I suspect they lose to the Bills, but I do think they have a reasonable shot of winning that game. If they get to play PIT instead, they get another chance to beat a 3rd string rookie QB.
