What the hell does that even mean.

All of the people you denigrate are pushing for positive change.

    Who sold you on meritocracy?

It's been who you know for ever.

Public education, university ,family, the American dream lol .

I’ve heard the saying “it’s not what you know it’s who you know” forever

And obviously I knew it was true on some level. But , nothing is absolute so you assign a percentage to it . My preconceived notion going into the job market was something like 70% ability 30 % connections .... my feeling after a few years of maturation is 90% connections 10% ability .

So comrade, you want the government to tell companies where to operate?

With most of the growth occurring outside of the US, what’s the solution?

I don't subscribe and didn't have to pay. Sounds like you are making excuses. Well here's a different link see if that works:

As for bias - again, FT is actually right of center.

I think it's time you start debating from a place of fact and honesty, and not this make believe idea that everyone who disagrees with you is wrong.

Has anyone put forth a viable social plan to deal with the population that gets cut out due to automation? This thread has got me curious. As much as the right historically is against social welfare programs, it seems like there had to be something put in place.

Not sure on Donny's number, but it doesn't take a lot of people (in the grand scheme of things) to run and maintain the cloud.

Everyone I know who went to a major college and entered into any "Business" environment still leans on the contacts and connections he or she made in college - call up an alumni and get what you want / need that goes for those who graduated last year or 30 years ago. Alumni tends to be like an extended family.

College is just as much about making connections as it is about learning ....

Now I wouldn't say the job market is 90/10 .... getting a foot in the door is one thing , knowing someone helps in that aspect , maintaining that position is another - You cant suck and keep a job for very long. Getting in the door is just the first step.

    I agree with you .

But I will say it’s hard to get a job without first getting your foot in the door . Try sending g an online application without first having a contact and the chances they get back to you are pretty low .

Keeping a job is important and you DO need competence outside of your connection , but you have to get the job to keep the job
