Spoiler The red guys are the Sith Troopers. The black guys are the Knights of Ren. We saw the Knights of Ren briefly in The Force Awakens, it was in Rey's dream sequence when she grabbed the light saber. The Knights of Ren is the group Kylo Ren rode with initially.
I can't believe there hasn't been any activity in this thread since November. Early returns appear good. People saying it is a satisfying conclusion. Only complaint I saw is they said it jammed alot of stuff in there. No surprise as Abrams had to make up for Johnson's last movie in terms of the story telling. Probably am not going to come back to this thread until I see the movie. Hope to not get spoiled.
Seems like mixed reviews to me. But the diehard fans are going to hate anything they do, so... to be expected.
I would consider myself a die hard fan. But I not one of those fans that go *comic book guy* on a movie. Star Wars is comfort food. Stick with the style guide. Provide delight. Remember what made you enjoy it when you were 13. By the way, *Fan Service* is NOT a bad thing. In fact, I encourage it.
Currently sitting at 53% on metacritic and 58% on rotten tomatoes. I heard they snuck in a gay kiss, so at least they checked that box. Spoiler
Really hoping Abrams makes up for the last one. I don’t have the fire that I’ve had for probably every release in the history of Star Wars releases due to TLJ. I still remember walking down the aisle of the theater for Star Wars at 5 years old. Man I was jacked those first several years. I couldn’t get enough Star Wars in my young life. I could not believe Vader was Luke’s father and remember asking my dad “its not true is it”? Still taking my boys the second they get out of school Friday. Hope I’m pleasantly surprised.
Heard it was entertaining and satisfying in terms of concluding the Skywalker story. Main criticism has been that the movie lacks vision, as the main points feel rushes and aimed mostly at retconning the Last Jedi.
it comes out wednesday here where I'm at, but I'll wait till the crowd dies down and catch a matinee showing.
My wife and I will see it today at 6:30 PM, probably the earliest showing here. The critics are all over the place with this one. So many of them loved The Last Jed probably because they were surprised. I can appreciate some of the different elements, but the Luke and Snoke arcs were overall a big letdown. And the space horsies? Stupid. And Benicio Del Toro's character? Waste of time. And so on. What I expected, and what I'm reading, is that Abrams is swinging hard again in the opposite direction. Whereas Rian Johnson was an over-correction for TFA's kissing-of-fans'-butts, Johnson swung the pendulum too far in the other direction. And now it may be happening again: Abrams trying to un-do the last movie. But I'm one of the first to see it tonight, so who is the more foolish? The fool or the fool who follows him?
