I think journalists ran with click bait and are high on their rightous indignation. I don't think the reporter was harrased or felt threatened and instead was rubbing her hands together in glee to start a media shitstorm and thousands of clicks for her publication when she heard those dumb statements by the assistant gm.

I'm more annoyed by the over the top reaction than the actual comments themselves. Now everyone who has a slightly differing opinion on this subject matter is labeled a domestic violence supporter online.

Those anti-sjw grifter YouTube channels rarely have a point but media sensationalism of these social issues is definitely a valid one.

 

So reporter uses the power of the press and her position to call out the team she reports on and to hound a player who allegedly committed DV. Does so repeatedly. She isn't worried about feelings or whether she is being rude or whether just maybe she doesn't get to be the judge and jury for months on end.

Taubman yells out something that indicates his displeasure with her. Boorish. But he doesn't even yell anything directly about her -- just crudely announces support for the player she has been incessantly targeting.

Reporter and her colleagues then use their position of power to destroy his career and cast him as a dv supporter. No longer just feelings in play. They want disproportionate blood.

As has been stated many times, lying to the front office and causing the entire organization to look like asses is what got him fired.

People can debate all they want about how bad the initial action was, I personally agree that has been grossly overblown. But the organizations response, a response they foolishly gave on his words, is the real s**tstorm and is completely indefensible. The organization was clearly gonna have a long leash with him, and this entire ordeal could have been mostly diffused if he had shown a modicum of professionalism.

 

I sincerely doubt he calculated this. Footer was there. A rowdy drunk despite his venue can't be tamed. Quite unfortunate.

 

Animosity grew once she harped on the organization for possessing Osuna. Where was she on Chapman!?? Man apparently fired a pistol in his tirade.

 

I'd like to add. This entire situation isn't about empathy or virtue. It's an extensive witch hunt.

 

Where has it been reported what Taubman told the front office?

I guarantee you a lot of people in that front office knew right away when they heard what Taubman said that he directed those comments to Alyson Footer, that mysteriously anonymous emotionally shaken young lady with the DV bracelet. The media decided to go with angry bad man attacks defenseless female reporters, one of which had on a DV bracelet, because the truth wasn't nearly as click bait.

 

Regardless of whether she should or not, the Astros invited this when they traded for Osuna. That was part of the cost we paid for getting a high end talent on the cheap. But I could see how that would be aggravating having to hear it over and over, and with alcohol involved he said something he otherwise wouldn't have. Most people have said or done something while drunk we regretted.

But him and the organization lost all potential defense with how they handled it the next day. Now the witch hunt is definitely on, and it's open season on all criticism of the meanie Astros.
