I'm not outraged. It's a message board and I'm providing my opinion. Maybe that will make some people think about things from a different perspective. Similarly, I don't think Luhnow should be fired and if people on this board were suggesting that I would add my opinion.

My opinion is that the reason Taubman was fired was Taubman's own behavior. He wasn't fired because of someone else's feelings or left wing media outrage. He wasn't treated unfairly, the organization was willing to support him before they knew he was lying. He was fired after he lied about the situation and gave the Astros no other choice but to fire him.

I don't know whether he would have been fired had he accepted some responsibility and given an actual apology, and anyone claiming they know is guessing. My guess is he would have been disciplined, but not fired since they did initially support him. That would not have made everyone happy, but the Astros would have ignored that like they are going to ignore random people on twitter calling to fire Luhnow.

    Your Paragraphs 3 & 4 don't sound unlikely.

What evidence could Taubman bring forward that could buttress his hypothetical coming clean? Electronic evidence that Luhnow came up with this plan to initially deny the story? Any hidden recordings that Taubman made of Luhnow telling him what to do?

I don't know who lied, when. I'm still waiting on a video or audio recording of the outburst. I'm just saying I can see the Astros, as an organisation, deciding to initially deny the report---regardless of what Taubman told them about what happened---and only after that denial was disbelieved by the public at large, deciding that Taubman's conduct was so deplorable that it merited termination. What a pain in the ass.

As for the team defending Osuna over Taubman, the team is in the business of entertaining people. People are more entertained when the team wins, and Osuna is much more important towards that goal than is Taubman. About the only front office guy I could potentially see a team favouring over a good player, is someone like Daryl Morey in his prime.

I hope that letting him go stops the media feeding frenzy around the Astros, but I doubt it will.

Just to be clear........ I think the most likely scenario is the easiest one.... which is that Luhnow askes Taubman and another employee and they denied it and the Astros drafted their response. EVEN under this scenario it shows that the Astros did not think that it was a big issue or care too much because that isn't much of another investigation.

I agree with you that it is also possible someone high up the food chain concocted the idea that this whole thing could be explained away with a story. If that is the case, the Astros organization will do everything possible to make any and all investigations go away.

As far as evidence? If Taubman decides he is the fall guy and is bitter and angry, all he really has to do is come forth and say it was all a plan to cover it up by Astros management....... that is likely enough.

However I cannot see him doing that any time soon, he is going to want to be involved in baseball again. At this point there are enough executives in baseball I am sure that think what he did is inappropriate but over blown...... and if everything dies down can try to bring him into the fold slowly....... that is his best bet.

Man, that Athletic piece by Drellich is media sensationalism at it's finest. You'd think the Astros were paying illegal wages to underage workers and making them sleep inside of cells inside of union station.

It reminds me a little bit of reading company reviews on Indeed or Glassdoor, where company ratings can be heavily skewed by former employees.

It very well could be/probably is a poor work environment from a work-life standpoint, but that's pro sports in general. Regarding the baseball ops side, you are competing against the best talent in the world on and off the field, I wouldn't necessarily expect that to be a comfortable work environment where promotions are easy to come by.

What a time to be alive ... one image tweeted by Morey crumbles the entire NBAs relationship with China, and an Astros front office member gets drunk, says something stupid to get himself fired, and now the Astros are run by a bunch of ruthless scumbags?

Taubman is a douche-canoe, but Drellich is a shitstain. He's a snively little man who loves to poke at the Astros every opportunity he gets.

He's gonna be steaming for the rest of his life. Not only was he bested by this woman, the franchise turned their back on him, mlb will blackball him, and he can only blame himself. There's no way out. No redemption. No comeback. Everything was lost in seconds. Talk about reasons to live out a bitter life. I can't wait to see what happens.

Drellich is still pissed because he ridiculed the Astros rebuilding plan from day one and was angry the Astros cut off giving him scoops.

Whatever..... he is entitled to his opinion and the Astros hopefully learn from this.

Not sure. He's got a BS from Cornell in Economics. Had a job at Barclays, and moved up the Astros ladder insanely fast. Obviously very smart since Luhnow thought highly of him. Just young and made a mistake in front of the sensitive media. He'll likely be very successful in another industry.

Drelich hates the team. I like how he talks about high turnover and ignores that many got higher jobs elsewhere.

Notice how there are no emotions for bad, meh or great article underneath his garbage like all other articles?

Also, if you believe Twitter, the Astros have now joined the elite of most hated teams along with NY, Boston and LA. I'm cool with it.

Either that or he goes back into the finance world and makes a billion dollars, and then gets his revenge 3 comma style.

Pretty sure I have more empathy than you (like, by a lot), but if not, congrats on being a very generous, kind-hearted person. The world could use more.

Regarding this incident, I just hate the entire innocent role women often play. Nearly every female I’ve ever conversed with displays it in some form. It’s like nothing is ever their fault nor can they ever do wrong. Have you ever tried getting a woman to admit a mistake? It’s like pulling teeth unless it’s admitted backhandedly. Overall, they are great. I still love them and show plenty of mercy, just detest the mentality.

You never heard of Taubman? Dude was integral to the Cole trade... got a seat at the podium!

He was VP in charge of integral trades that continue to keep the team in contention!

Other than that, I have no idea what his day-to-day role was... nor do I think Luhnow will have a hard time finding another replacement who will soon rocket to the top of everyone's wish-list.

With so many teams trying to land Astros management/analytics guys I wouldn't be surprised if Taubman finds another job in mlb when this cools down.

No... they're toxic... and any team that gets one of them immediately gets banned by twitter.

The Astros have been a model franchise for a while. Suddenly they're cheating wife beaters?

They fired the moron, what more do they want?

If he's going to work in baseball it will be as an off the books consultant without an official role or title. In the shadows.
