I've been involved in these CF leagues for like 15 years now, generally slow drafts, and I have no idea why we can't fit in a window overnight where the clock doesn't run. Midnight to 5am CST, something like that.
...or have a list on the google doc where you check off the names of drafted players rather than trying to add them and guess who isn't there.
It's something that gets tossed out there every season. Then typically gets brushed off for the "this is how it's always been" argument "and we're sticking to it" tradition. I believe there was one season where we held an online draft through ESPN which was completed within an hour (this was prior to adopting 4 more teams of course). I'm ok with whatever we decide, whether it's; rule change or draft format change.
Agree. This draft is too fast. We need to slow it down. Draft Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
Guys, don't think you realize the time it takes to run these drafts for guys like Fade (basketball/baseball) and myself (football), behind the scenes cause you are having to check on the board every couple of hours, not just when your about to pick. Fade and I have always tried in the first few rounds do everything we can so no one is skipped, when it really counts, even pick best available for you - however in these later rounds, when you have decide between player 118 and 120 to fill your bench, we just skip you and let you pick when you are available. We also are dealing with people in all different time zones, we even had Smeg who use to do these every year who was in Australia, so stopping the clock doesn't make sense an to be honest in all these drafts we have done, hundreds and hundreds of picks that have been made, we probably have skipped a dozen people in all these years - which they were able to make their pick 1 or 2 late every time. If we ever did look at stopping the clock, we would have to start these things much earlier, possibly a week, to make sure we finished on time. That is why we always give options, like sending commish a list (one of the reason why we have to be on board so much), we do everything we can to help you out so you are not skipped. In the end these drafts, we complain, or at least some complain, every year, every time, but we still have fun doing them, to be honest still 100X then a quick draft that's done in two hours (which we did in football this year, which sucked). This type of draft is different then all the others cause it gives us the we opportunity to smack talk, complain, laugh at one another and just have some fun - even though it can seem to drag on, it is worth it, which is why we have been able to keep this running for so many years.
@Garner you're up @Ziggy had his time elapse while Sam made his pick... I gave him extra time before moving to you.
I would have taken Barton. Didn't think it'd roll to me in the late hours of the night. Yall killing me & Sam. Gimmie a SEC.
