I know another team, which plays today btw, where their bullpen is their weakness. Putting in a starter on short rest didn't go so well for them (it might have if the offense had shown up).

Astros Relievers ERA 3.72 for 3rd best in Majors. Nationals ERA 5.66 for 30th best in Majors.

    Opponents Batting at .226 (3rd best) versus .266 (28th).

The difference in ineptness is fairly large...at least in the regular season.

So the Nationals play at the Cardinals today despite Washington winning 93 games to St. Louis' 91. I'm assuming this is because the Cards won their division while the Nats were the wild card, right?

If so, that's bullcrap. The team with the best record should get home field, period.

Regardless of the bullpen, it always made more sense to me to have JV on short rest followed by the best pitcher in baseball on normal rest if necessary, rather than an untested rookie who hadn't started in 10 days followed by the second best pitcher in baseball on an extra day's rest if necessary.

I tend to agree. My point was doing as Washington did to avoid their bullpen may not work out as well for us.

Josh James could fix everything if he was more consistent. :)

New rule for the postseason...you can add one player to your roster from the team you just beat. #CFM

That sounds good until you begin to look at what the other winners in the playoffs rosters start to look like as well.

Many examples possible here, but can you imagine if the opposite happened and TB went on to beat us and added Cole?

I mean do you just let Anibal Sanchez go as long as he can in this situation?

I would leave him in. Never like the idea of the quick trigger. Guy has it going, you see what he can do. He's bringing the heat tonight.

Sanchez's changeup is wicked. Astros usually struggle versus power pitchers.

    Mad max vs gerrie cole
    Strasburg vs Verlander
    Corbin vs Grienke
    Sanchez vs ???

Matt Carpenter has had the single most disappointing year of 2019. Comparing his stats last year to this year, what a huge letdown that guys been.

So if the Nats sweep, they could be waiting for a week before the WS.
