The Rays plate discipline is what has brought them into this. Even with Cole and Verlander they weren't chasing balls. They've figured out that patience at the plate pays off eventually.
It really is 50/50 (actually less) but I get the idea doing it in a game 4 of a 5 game series with being able to close it out
Last I checked, Astros we're up 2-1 in this series. Some of ya'll need to relax. The real problem is that Miley has turned to trash so we lack an experienced 4th starter. If we had the Miley of the first half of the season, I don't think there'd be any worries. We're playing with fire going with JV and Cole on really short rest.
Urquidy would have started had they not brought JV back on short rest. Urquidy is likely pitching a few innings in this game.
The problem is that I don't think Verlander is going to last more than 6 innings. So then we have to rely on the bullpen which means the bats need to gain at least a 3 run lead for things to be generally safe. I don't trust the bats now to get 4 runs. They have been absolutely abysmal with this Ray's staff.
Mentally I hated this move because it smells of desperation, the Rays are cool and calm and collected and we are...not...
