Even if they had business interests, Britain and the EU allow the basic human right of freedom of speech so it would be fine. They aren't like nazi China.
Yeah seriously. China wants to renege on their treaty obligations left and right and call it the rule of law. They call the entire South China Sea their territory despite the fact that they signed the UNCLOS which directly contravenes their claim. When reports come out saying China isn’t respecting the rule of law, China says it’s biased reporting. Give me a break.
Western media is certainly biased, it depends on the source of western media. Each source tends to have their own bias. However, because of freedom of the press you can receive bias going in every direction which ultimately allows you to understand the point of view from everyone's side and actually develop your own opinion on the issue opposed to the government forcing you in to their opinion by only allowing you to understand their side, their biased side.
We don't care if you're Communists as long as you like our basketball team. Stories from the depth of stupidity.
1) Any sane, reasonable person would have agreed with Morey's Hong Kong tweet. 2) It was unwise for Morey to tweet that, from a professional and business standpoint. Easy to see why Tilman (and possibly Silver too) is unhappy with Morey and wanted him to delete the tweet. There's a good reason why most business professionals keep quiet about their political beliefs. I'm surprised Morey tweeted that. 3) The way Fertitta is handling this...is downright stupid. Fertitta is making things worse, and this is a good example of the risks of having an egotistical, greedy owner. This story could have died quickly and quietly, if handled properly by a competent PR department. Instead, the Rockets now have a bigger PR problem on their hands. That said, I doubt Morey gets fired over this.
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that a billionaire is an egomaniac but it still shocks me every time Tillman speaks and he acts like he built this team. This is an organization with a championship level culture. Stable and consistently winning for years and years and then elevated by Morey even more so. This dude doesn’t have anything on his resume yet.
Tillman also doesn’t seem to understand this is the NBA and not NASCAR. Players and coaches are seen as human beings with social conscious. On one hand you have Steve Kerr, and on the other you have Mark Cuban. Both who speak openly about politics and socially conscious relevant conversations on both sides. The players even more have thoughts and opinions Adam Silver has been supportive of them expressing. You have Lebron James as a major culturally outspoken athletes of this generation and past generations athletes like Kareem. But also players like Bogut who are on the other end of the spectrum are not chastised for their views by the league. So Tillman is the one out of line here with norms. He’s in the NBA. It’s a political statement for him to crack down on socially conscious public statements of his team members. Especially from someone who has given millions to politically influence governments before in the past... many of which aren’t beacons for freedom and democracy.
If Luhnow or any Astros player will post a similar post as “stand with freedom, stop corruption in Vanezuela.” Do you think Jim will even dare to say the same thing like Tilman did? Or, if any black players will post a photo of MLK and post black life matters, will Tilman even dare to post the same sh’t? Clearly this is double standard racist sh’t.
Support for democracy is even more American than the devotion to profit. Rendering 7 million people from democracy to the autocracy of a 'President for life" is patently unpalatable to anyone with an American heart.
Tillman better not fire him. If he didn't fire him after last offseason he can't fire him for defending human rights
Morey can have any GM job in the league. It won't be long before he tires of Tillman. There is no "hot seat" for someone of Morey's caliber. The Harden/Westbrook have a two year "prime" window. That's the only reason Morey would want to stay.
No I fear you are helplessly brainwashed and know absolutely nothing about your own oppressive country.
Hong Kong was screwed as of 1997, when the British handed it over to China. The British hung the Hong Kongers out to dry then, and this was all a foregone conclusion.
Yes.... keep over looking the tens of millions of Chinese that the Chinese Communist Party has killed in only 70 years.
Nice, I am glad that you actually utilized the illegal VPN to access the free world and at least starting to learn how to spell those words. But sadly and clearly you still don’t know the meanings of those yet.
100% true. As a Rockets fan, I truly hope that Tilman will fire Morey or Morey will resign, then we will have two laughing stock sports franchises in this town.
No, he didn’t. All the fans in China aren’t worth ignoring the human atrocities and rights violations that are occurring in HK. Not supporting them when you’re entire business was built on THE bastion of freedom is terrible business. If Tilman was born in China, he’d be a rice farmer right now. The fact that he has forgotten that is enraging.
