Morey should have known better. You really don't want to chime in on sensitive international issues when you are essentially the face of the team.

 

I did not realize that it was controversial in America to defend democracy.

I have spent a good amount of time in China and because of my business I have had an opportunity to travel and live in a number of countries.

A big part of this is the total control and brainwashing of the citizens of China by the CCP. It has become so engrained in the culture of China to not question the state that having a productive discussion is very hard.

The West is very different culturally than China. I saw profound differences between Eastern Europe and Western Europe and the Middle East and the West... but the cultural divide between China and the West is every bit as wide if not more so.

There isn’t really much debate. Outside of China everyone knows what the Chinese are doing to Hong Kong is atrocious.

So it is “sensitive” because the CCP is thin skinned and unable to accept reality or accept any criticism?

Had Morey made a comment about any other nation on the planet supporting democracy, no one would care...

 

The fact that my friends in China are even scared to talk about the situation in HK to me privately, tells you a lot about their government.

Also, China's brainwashing is a bigger problem than most people think since they send all their kids abroad to foreign schools to study other country's knowledge to use for their own country. This is how they get ahead. Private colleges won't deny them entry though because they love that money.

I wouldn't be surprised if CF gets involved somehow after news leak to their Chinese fansites that most members here back Morey.

 

If you can't see why this is a sensitive political issue I don't know what to tell you.

Morey shouldn't be making any stands really on international issues period given his position on the team.

I also like how you love making general sweeping statements about the whole ordeal as if it's so black and white. I have many family members and close friends currently living and working in Hong Kong, there is anything but a general consensus of what people in Hong Kong actually want. It goes way way beyond what "the Chinese are doing to Hong Kong" as you put it.

What China is attempting to do in Hong Kong is black and white. They are wrong in this situation.

So If they had just ignored what Morey said or didn’t make a big deal of it, it wouldn’t be a big deal

I've spent a lot of time in China. It is among the least "free" places I've visited out of over 60 countries. Small checklist:
1) is the public allowed access to unedited movies, television, music = Nope
2) Public allowed access to search engines, gmail, youtube, popular news sites? = Nope
3) In china you cannot even paint your car a different color and they make getting a drivers license and license plate incredibly difficult to obtain
4) Media allowed to provide information not approved by the state? = Nope
5) The latest "innovation" is the new Chinese "Social Credit System" where you are prevented from flights and loans if you do not conform to behavioral standards.
6) Justice system?? China has a 99.94% conviction rate. In other words if you are arrested.. you are guilty.
7) Free Speech in China? = Nope. In fact just speaking "poorly" about a public official will get you arrested, which means jail. (even though Chinese article 35 guarantees those rights.)
8) Right to procreate? = Limited to 2, previously it was just 1 child.
9) Religion? Only 5 religions allowed in China and 100% of each religions activities and finances are directly controlled by the government.
10) Habeus Corpus? = Nope. In excess of 1M people held without charges or bail. These "crimes" include practicing an unlicensed religion.
11) Think Texas has a lot of executions? China leads the planet in this dept. by a vast margin.

I would add that I've always enjoyed working with people in China. They've been great to me and I really feel bad for a lot of them. They largely think that the rules I've detailed above are the same everywhere in the world, which never ceases to amaze me how well the media in China controls public awareness of rights in other places.

 

If Morey is fired then I quit being a Rockets fan.

My morals > My team.
If the team decides to side with fascistic and nazistic politics then I have no place being a fan.

And have no doubt that what China is doing is modern nazism. Exterminating the enemy within in concentration camps.

Tilman owns a casino and a bunch of expensive chain restaurants. Chinese people don't eat at his restaurants anyways

 

The authorized religions in China are all expected to help promote communist party agenda and teach their members to be loyal to the communist party. Those that don't comply have their church/temple torn down and the priests/monks running the place gets arrested and most likely beaten and tortured. There are even cases where people were arrested and had their home demolished just for hosting bible study groups or other private religious events.

But that hasn't stopped the "good Christian" Jeremy Lin from being so willing to get rich playing ball in China right now. Maybe he cares about his bank account a lot more than he cares about being a "good Christian".

 

China refused their airspace in one of the biggest chinese airliners because one flight attendant of theirs participated in the PEACEFUL protests last month. They didn't take it back until she got fired without compensation.

Chinese fans are deprived of most information and western entertainment. But one of which they still have access to is the NBA. They will be made aware of Morey's comment.

This will not go away easily and the team will be pressured.

To have human dignity and a clear consience or be a richer nazi supporter.
What choice will Tillman have to make.
