Authoritarian capitalism. They have their billionaires and markets. Their 99% have even less rights than ours.
One of my favorite Onion headlines from Our Dumb Century was "China Takes 'Great Leap Forward' Back Into the Stone Age"
China's 99% do have less political rights, but their 1% or billionaires do not have much political rights either. Money is not a factor in China's politics, which creates some odd fairness or constrains to counter the greed of capitalists. I have to say that authoritarian capitalism is surprisingly going well and embraced by Chinese as a result.
Only someone who needs a ghost writer to write the Art of the Deal believes that flattering world leaders shifts the discussion on complex trade deals where the bottom line is all that matters. He probably thinks it works, because it works on him.
If billionaires didn't have political power, the State would take their profits, whatever the 'system'. What would stop them? Law?
It’s 70 years of one party dictatorship. One party, one message, and if you say out loud that you don’t like it? One way ticket to Hell.
Oh, Trump wanted to. Then literally everyone talked him out of it because a show parade of sham chinese/russian/nork 'excellence' is something we've just never felt the need to emulate. The Soviet Bloc did stuff like this for decades, and I've seen Macy's Thanksgiving parades that were more impressive. Don't get me started on the Rose Bowl.
You don't have to be an extreme regime to do stuff like that. Lots of democratic countries have military parades. Like France. In my country we have them twice a year with soldiers with tanks, bazzoocas, and airplanes. Of course they did get started from a dictator in the 30s and we just have kept doing it. You are simply delusional.
Actually it is one party but not one message. The message is different from leader to leader. It is even different from different periods under the same leader. China today is communist state in name only. Just like today's Trump GOP is totally different than the GOP of Reagan which is different than the GOP under Dwight Eisenhower.
