Is there an alternative to impeachment that would literally benefit millions of people? How about holding off the impeachment and working on tangible legislation like DACA, climate change and an infrastructure bills? I know some of you guys said we must do the right, but if all it accomplishes is impeachment but not removal in the Senate, what have the people really accomplished? I'm trying to be pragmatic here, but at the same the above is premised on the belief both the House and Trump will act in good faith, a dubious and naive proposition at this time. How about you, would you trade impeachment for somethings that could really touch the lives of millions? I think I would give it a shot.
Yes, the alternative is to not only not hold those that break the laws accountable, but be willing to do a trade. The effect of that is similar to a negotiating with hostage takers. It embolden them to continue their illegal activities, with higher demand each time. Once you are willing to trade away your laws for productivity, you risk away your long term future for very very very short term gains.
How about you learn a single thing about how our legislative bodies work before commenting again? Major pieces of legislation on the Senate Floor, that Moscow Mitch refuses to consider, passed by the House: Bipartisan Background Checks Act Enhanced Background Checks Act For the People Act Paycheck Fairness Act Violence Against Women Reauthorization Save the Internet Act Climate Action Now Act Protecting Americans with Preexisting Conditions Act American Dream & Promise Act Securing America’s Federal Elections Act Raise the Wage Act That's just the major pieces..since January. There are over 100 pieces of House-passed legislation in Mitch's Legislative Graveyard - many of which are broadly popular and have bipartisan support. But they are blocked, by the whim of one, thoroughly compromised, Russian-backed man. How about you trade being ignorant/troll for being not? Shame on you. LIke, you should feel personally ashamed for posting this, if either in earnest or because you're the type of dork who thinks its cool to be dumb.
Sam Fisher: First of all, gfy. Second, you completely missed the purpose of my post. Didn't major in political science, but I know quite well how proposed legislation becomes law. I don't a buffoon like you to tell me that.
I would do it in a heartbeat, I am sure that's what Trump was trying to do a deal with Pelosi is about. Trumps problem is that he could not deliver on those deals if he tried and Pelosi knows that as well as he is not a good faith negotiator. What Trumps real failure is going to be is that he did not play both sides, he could have appointed supreme court judges and made a deal on Daca and infrastructure and could have sailed into a 2nd term. I have no idea why he went all in on the "conservatives" when he had no real ideology to begin with. I have to think him not being credited with a legitimate electoral victory was the tipping point.
Haha... Nope. The dems have leverage over Trump with the impeachment inquiry. Pelosi could push this and see how far she can go. Like I said, I'm more pragmatic than idealistic.
The dems have zero leverage in passing progressive legislation such as DACA because of the GOP senate. Mitch is going to just punt all their proposals into oblivion. You are definitely being idealistic here.
Or its similar to plea bargaining. That's a common practice in law enforcement and happens all the time. Doing a deal is actually getting something accomplished that will actually benefit people, which in my opinion is a lot more than creating a historical footnote. Trump could still be held criminally liable which is actually the real deterrent.
OK, how do you suppose the House should act to pass bipartisan bills that are being strangled to death in the Senate, that then have to be signed by a guy who thinks building a moat full of alligators and snakes is a legitimate legislative priority and spends his time rotting his brain with right wing media and tweeting random conspiarcy theories, alluding to civil wars and hanging his enemies, and who is unable to read or speak in complete sentences? Like how do you propose to do that? I am listening to your proposal. Will it be shameful? For you? I hope not. I dearly dearly hope not.
That's was a bit harsh of you and your rebuttal really had nothing to do with his post. It was a interesting question even if it has no reality of ever happening. But you are the guy who thinks impeaching him in the house will actually get rid of him or curtail his behavior. Pot meet kettle.
This where you are way off. Trump does not have the power to implement all of that, I am also pragmatic but the ship has sailed on Trump being able to get all of that stuff done. The Senate would impeach him before doing that.
Forcing GOP senators to vote on not removing a president who has an open and shut case for removal where pretty much all the impeachable actions have been readily admitted by the administration is worthwhile. Upholding the rule of law and executing your duties to enforce the rule of law is inherent in civil service. Things like DACA are subjective policy desires. Even though we want them, the GOP senators are not going to be painted by history as evil for punting said legislation.
I find it interesting if we could actually get something accomplished instead of having 12 more years of gridlock. I would gladly trade impeachment for that. Do I think it could ever happen? No. But I would definitely make that deal if it was possible.
I could give a **** about being painted by history, I want actual accomplishments for actual people. Do you think impeaching Trump in one house of congress is more important than people being scared to go to work because of Ice. Or the next deaths because of crumbling infrastructure are OK because at least the Democrats are not painted by history? Or the next victims of a mass shooting will die OK in the knowledge that at least the house did the right thing. I know these things will not get pass the Senate but the question was hypothetical and if it could happen I would be all for it.
