Can the referees still not call a timeout so teams won’t have to? Like when a player is injured. It’s so stupid how they continue to play on and force teams to use a valuable timeout.
You would be totally cool with the Rockets playing the Lakers in the WCF, Rockets up 1, 5 seconds left, Lebron just secured the rebound and the Lakers have no timeouts... Suddenly after securing the rebound Lebron limps out after taking a first step and Scott Foster calls a injury timeout. Lakers inbound the ball with 4 seconds left, Lebron is feeling all better and drains a inbound pass for two for the win. Lakers going to the Finals baby, Rockets going home. To me, the way it has always worked is fine. Teams have to use a timeout, or foul to stop play for injuries- nature of the game. It has worked well since the inception of professional basketball. You're right 'next argument' because as of now there is no argument-- the current system has worked.
So you want to give refs more power? You want to give them more options to decide the final outcome of a game?
You guys are idiots. When it’s clear a guy is knocked to the floor, dangerous to continue, referees just stop the game and call it a timeout.
You are acting like people have died because of the current rules when infact the current rules have worked well for over 40 years. No more regulations, no more added power to refs. You talk about flopping, letting refs call injury timeouts is going to open the flood gates to a whole new kind of 'flopping'. A whole new slew of tactics to abuse the rule. Loose ball tangles that would typically lead to fast breaks suddenly stopped due to 'traumatic injury' as one of the players lay on the floor acting like he just got mugged and shot in some back alley. The new flopping epidemic with refs calling injury timeouts will slow the game down even further. Can you really sit there with a straight face and claim that players and coaches wont try* to abuse the rule!?!? You think all refs are kosher? I pass, lets stick with what has worked.
I can see it now: Western Conference Finals, Beverley over-guarding Westbrook and WB goes down But not before he passes to Harden Harden drains a three with WB rolling in agony Scott Foster waves off the 3, claiming Rockets needed an injury timeout MDA explodes and gets called for two technicals by Tony Brothers 5pt turnaround ... lulz
You guys are just trying to be dicks now, you all know damn sure situations where you were screaming at the TV with a 5-on-4, wishing the refs had stopped the play because your guy was injured on the other end.
You know the defense can do a Take Foul to stop play. But in no way should they be able to stop a fastbreak, esp if the injury isn’t even part of the action, like under the rim.
We are being dicks? You are proposing a change to give more power and responsibility to referees to make a subjective call that can have major impacts on the outcome of a game. This is with the understanding that players currently flop to fool referees and these referees continually fall for it. You want to let them decide when to call injury timeouts? What are you going to ask for next? Stop a play so Lebron can tie his shoe laces?
So...you start a thread with one of your apparent pet peeves. Folks bring up valid points to argue against it. And, they are being idiots and dicks? Don’t start a thread if you don’t want people to argue your point.
