I understand all these points and on paper he'd be a great addition to any contender. But he isn't as hungry as a veteran with no chips would be. We've all seen the drop off in play over the years. Sure you'll get a clutch 3 but is that worth a possible too cool and chill attitude he may bring? The dudes ready to retire and has his rings

Does this mean that nene will appear in 9 games before Jan 15th? He should be able to go 30 minutes in those games lol.

He's a year older than Tucker, would play a different role on offense, and has a history of injuries. I love Iggy as a player, but he's got way more NBA miles on his tires than Tucker, who is already pretty old himself. Age itself doesn't tell you whether a player has declined. Tucker is actually a day older than CP3, but CP3 has declined while Tucker has remained the same. Iggy has been playing through injuries for a few years now and can't handle the same amount of minutes. He's in load management mode.

I still think Iggy would be great off the bench like he was in GS. I hope he comes in a buyout because otherwise we'd have to trade someone in our rotation for him.

Once he gets traded to memphis he will have zero chance to win 53 games. So in the end its moot point

I don't think iggy will be on the grizzlies until January 15th.

I think we have an advantage in signing him if we use the remainder of the NTMLE to sign him after a buyout since all other contenders can only offer the minimum. this would mean waiving nene since we would be hard capped.

but separately if we miss on iggy for the minimum and don't want to hard cap ourselves for him then trading nene for a player like covington, aminu, or ariza would be a viable plan B.

    Covington
    Gallinari

As SF is our biggest need (our 2nd need is back up PF) (Esp one who can play 20-30 mins when we decide to go small)

Other PF options include (but I think SF is no 1 issue)

    Marvin Williams
    James Johnson
    Julius Randle
Jerian Grant (shoulce got him in RW trade frankly)
    Bjelica
    Crowder
    Thad Young

Russell westbrook is definitely the ace boon koon. Wouldn't mind if scottie brooks became coach. Nothing like a hot-tub time machine!

Does IGGY make us contenders? Yes trade House. No? Then don't.

That's a great point. Plus telling Iggy to stay home until January may hurt the Grizzlies reputation long term with players and agents. If the Rockets can somehow convince Shumpert to a similar deal than we're really in business to combine Nene and Shumpert's contracts to go after a high paid player.

Nene cannot be traded until January.
Iggy will be traded in December for a recently signed FA.
I'm hoping for Covington or one of the Knicks PFs.

Why Morey would rather collect 10 guards instead of signing a good SF or PF for us?

That will be our biggest weakness to win championship.

I think this opens up the market moreso than just Iggy.

    Kelly Oubre $15.6 million
    Bobby Portis $15 million
    Marcus Morris $15 million
    JJ Redick $13.4 million
    Dewayne Dedmon $13.3 million
    Thaddeus Young $12.9 million

Hell even Trevor Ariza at $12 million can become an option now. Basically any free agent that signed over the summer to a team that has boom-or-bust risk next season will be in the mix.

Isn't this really a "Nene screwed up" thread?

Not necessarily. If he gets waived then signs somewhere else he will be better off. If he plays in 10 games he will be better off. Worst case he gets a couple mil for never suiting up then gets cut and has an early vacation to go play Big 3.

Bad idea, D'antoni loves Shump and will play him every game he can even if he isn't effective. Giving him that kind of deal would probably cost Tman 25-30mil after taxes
