The best punishment for Flagrant 2 fouls

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by deb4rockets, Sep 11, 2019.

?

What punishment would you like to see for Flagrant 2 fouls?

  1. Keep it the same

  2. Make it like soccer. When they are ejected, the team can't replace the player on the court.

I think it would be a fun twist to the NBA to make flagrant 2 fouls punishment more like what they do in soccer. Wouldn't it be cool if when a player gets ejected the team can't replace him? I woul love to see a team have to play the rest of the game with less players when play dirty, lose their cool, and hurt another player.

It might actually stop a few guys from playing so dirty if it could cost their team the game. That would really be interesting in the playoffs.

There's a huge difference between permanently losing 1/11th of your team on a 70,000 square foot field and permanently losing 1/5 of your team on a 4,700 square foot court. 4 on 5 basketball is borderline impossible for more than a possession or two. Drawing a flagrant 2 would become a game-winning play 90%+ of the time. That is a huge overreaction to a barely existent problem.

A 10-man soccer team can compete with an 11-man team.

The worst 5-man NBA team you could come up with would destroy the best 4-man team.

instead of making the team playing 4v5, I rather have the head coach get ejected along with the player.

Damn, I can’t imagine the increase in flopping that would happen if the NBA did that...it would look like, well, soccer out there.

Or, make that player suspended for the same amount of time the player they injure misses due to an over the top flagrant intent to hurt them.

4v5 sounds good to me. but also add being indefinitely suspended without pay until the injured player steps on the court again (if you injure him... like what artest did to harden).

You could do the hockey thing and put them in a penalty box. But if you really want to punish someone, make them wear a ninja style headband, and take their life in their hands!

The soccer rule would be too hardcore. It works there because you have 11 guys. The NBA can't sustain that. Losing 20% of your players on the court for one incident? Ouch. Plus soccer, not completely like football, does have somewhat of a partition in offense and defense. Basketball does not.

Generally speaking, if they want to really fix the flagrant foul issue they need more consistency on those calls, and they really need to retroactively hit players as well. Also, FFS, call it on Draymond Green once and a while.

Flagrant 2 = Opposing team can eject any player on violators team. Still 5v5, but your best player is gone

Yeah, I always felt that was the most appropriate.
