The Rams were good in 2017 because of McVay. They mortgaged their entire future when they traded up for Goff in 2016. He ended up starting 7 games that season going 0-7. Things were looking bleak as ever for them. They hire McVay (who hasn’t had a 1st draft choice yet) and completely changes the outlook of that franchise. Do we have the talent that the Rams had? Honestly I think we might have more. But agreed that I’m not sure BoB is the guy to suddenly unlock it.
Unless they disband, they have some future, it just may not be a good one. I actually think that the current team could be pretty good. With an improved OL the offense could be scary. The defense will be fine. They will probably win the division and one playoff game, especially if it is the Bengals. That was not likely a few weeks ago. The Texans disappoint avid fans. My advice, become a casual, marginally interested fan. Much less painful.
People are explaining this move as necessary because we need offensive line help. These people all miss the point in the first place. It's not whether the picks are worth it or not, but how in the world did it get to this sorry ass place from the beginning. Why is it that successful football teams able to keep their QBs from getting killed without having to spend all this but the Texans do? BOB talks about being like the Patriots but when was the last time the Patriots got so desperate they had to give away all their draft picks to cover a single position? Every Texans move can be explained if you just look at that move individually. You can say Clowney should be traded for chemistry or whatever issues. You can say you don't want to pay Duane Brown. You can say you need to protect Watson so you have to get a left tackle. But a well-run team don't put themselves in such horrible positions in the first place. If Clowney was such a horrible teammate then he should've been traded back when he had trade value. If the Texans needed a left tackle they should've found a way to get it in the past 2 years through development or FA. If they felt Duane Brown wasn't worth the price tag then they should've found someone who was worth it. That's how the Patriots do things. The Texans instead is that guy who forgot to buy plane tickets in advance and had to pay triple by buying the night before the flight. And then Texans fans then explain that he did the right thing to overpay because you can't just miss the flight instead.
Thank you. That's exactly the point I was trying to make with this thread. This is incompetence and organizational failure of the highest order -- a team with absolutely no plan in place. Sure, the fans can find whatever positivity they want in this, but like I said before this team is not going to a play in a Super Bowl. The competition at the top echelon of the NFL is cutthroat and the margin for error is razor thin. You simply cannot spend 3 first round and 2 second round picks on a single position trying to solve one piece of the puzzle while also simultaneous giving away a pro bowl pass rusher for free, and not face some serious repercussions down the road. In time, the bill will come due and the Texans are going to pay a very heavy price when glaring holes open up at multiple positions and the cupboard is absolutely empty of replenishments.
Just get rid of BoB and take our chances with a regime change. Since Bob by himself is holding us back from greatness. Whether it's in game decision, roster development, and now GM duties. He says the right stuff, but this man is performing well with the talent he is given. Getting into playoffs is a given for those that want to compete, but we just lack the leadership to get us to greatness. If trading our former number one pick (Clowney) after tanking a year, for scraps doesn't rile u up, then nothing BoB does will. So petty that BoB was willing to pay a contending team money to get an All-Pro player. Fking stupid.
In a West end town a dead end world The East end boys and West end girls Ooh a West end town in a dead end world The East end boys and West end girls West end girls You got a heart of glass or a heart of stone Just you wait till I get you home We've got NO FUTURE We've got no past Here today built to last In every city and every nation From Lake Geneva to the Finland station
I was wrong on him but admitted that his rookie year. I've been right on bill OBrien. He's terrible and is going to get Watson hurt
Tl;dr You're taking your fandom too seriously. You bare no consequences for the decisions so being so angry because Clowney didn't get traded for a bounty you deem acceptable is ridiculous. Your team is now a contender. **** everything else
I think because they originally paid for 17 games per season, and usually, the Monday night, week 17 game was trash. This way, you avoid a week 17 Monday night trash game. This is also the second time the Texans have opened up on a Monday night. The other time was a few years ago vs San Diego. We went 2-0 to start the year and then Matt Pick Six Happen and lost the next 14 games.
As someone that doesn't live in texas, the texans are considered a laughing stock nationally. Still viewed as a garbage expansion franchise that doesnt really care about winning. The Rockets and Astros on the other hand are considered national contenders. Especially the rockets, most other franchises group them right in with LAs and Golden State.
Here we are, 2 seasons later and as I said this franchise is still going nowhere. The damage done by the BOB administration is massive and will take years to recover. The Texans need a complete rebuild just as Watson is entering his prime. It will be a sad sight to watch — one of the most promising young QBs wasted because of a terrible owner and terrible management. I’m not here to pour salt on Texans’ fans wounds, but you look at this roster and you know it’s going to take 3 draft classes starting in 2022 to get back to any legit shot of serious contention, and that’s if the new GM hits home runs every single at bat. The next decade of the AFC is going to belong to the Chiefs, Bills, etc. Even the Chargers are in a better place than the Texans right now. The only thing left to do is to stop giving this terrible owner your hard earned money. This team has no future.
