The thought Marc Anthony singing a rendition of football time in Houston makes this deal a steal

If a first is being included, there has to me more in return than just Tunsil. Please, tell me there is more.

    I would!
Either a 1st OR Clowney is acceptable, but NOT BOTH!!!

    That's a bigtime overpay!
And if we can't hit on draft picks we'll never win anyway.
A good team is unsustainable thru just trades and free agent signings.
    It'll cost too much.
The fact that it looks like we're about to get bent over here should be proof of that.

Speaking of the last two..........if it's going to take THAT much draft capital to get Tunsil just take the 1st rounder by itself, trade it for T. Williams and then trade Clowney to Dallas for "Zeke Elliott.
At least then we would have 2 positions ably manned for our 2 premium assets given up!

The Texans must feel they have completely failed in building an O line to protect Watson. They drafted players and they brought in a couple of vets, but they must have real concerns about keeping Watson healthy.

A couple of months ago, it looked like they were content to have Clowney miss training camp but play in the regular season. But then they saw what they really had up front trying to protect Watson had they realized something had to be done. On top of that, Fuller is trying to come back from injury, Koke gets hurt, and Miller goes down. Suddenly the offense looks like a wreck and the Texans decide to get busy trying to plug all the holes on offense.

Unfortunatel, Clowney by himself doesn't bring back a whole lot in return. I'm nervous about sending out future draft picks, but I do understand the need to finally get some protection for Watson.

Clowney plus a first is only a "rip off" if we either believe the texans will have a 4-12 season or if we think there is a LT in the 2020 draft that is better than Tunsil. I say go for it with the Colts possibly down this year. Dont waste Watsons cheap years.

So if saying JD is worth close to what Clark was worth (1st, 2nd and swap of 3rds)
    Let’s just call it 2 2nds.
They also want a 1st rounder and another potential “high” pick, let’s just call it a 3rd.
    That’s a 1st, two 2nds and a 3rd for Tunsil?

That’s an overpay period, I get the need to protect Deshaun, but at that price he won’t have much of a team in the future.

What can happen to his value if he doesn't sign? How much does he get then?

There's no signing bonus? You know who else doesn't get a signing bonus? Basically everyone. I'd be happy with 16M guaranteed for a half year's non-exclusive employment without a bonus. Poor baby.

As far as his contract being not guaranteed, you are wrong. If he plays under the tag it is guaranteed.

No, blame the players association for negotiating those terms and blame the player for failing to avoid the tag like damn near the entire league does. The tag is a tool to help teams deal with greedy players. Smart business would be for Clowney to have avoid the tag to begin with, like 99% of the league.

It's not surprising you'd have this view, but at least maybe you can appreciate that the player's union shares responsibility for having it. The tag exists under rules that Clowney approves through participation in the player's union. He just doesn't like that it applies to him after he's tried to work the system for his personal gain.

Free agency is not to allow players to "explore options", it's to prevent owners from refusing to negotiate in good faith. Free agency is not a tool to enable players to decide the future of the league like it has become in the NBA.

Texans aren't getting good value because Clowney's new team only gets 1-year contractually. Clowney can walk after this season. Texans didn't plan well for these transgressions.

Most people do not earn 16M in a career and 16M guaranteed would be taken by 99.9999% of the world's population, Derek Newton or not. In Clowney's case, a significant issue is that his career may be cut short at any moment regardless of what occurs on the field. In fact, it appears Clowney will be doing that to himself.

We look like beggars when trying to move one of the most devastating defensive players in the league! It takes a uniquely horrible front office to pull that off.

    GOOD DAY

    Bill leaking a bit more.

The Texans are actually being smart here.

Clowney just needs to report and pack his bags.

Atlhon Sports rankings has him as the 5th highest rated OLB in football. They also have Tunsil as the 11th highest rated OT.

    5. Jadeveon Clowney, Houston
Just because he hasn’t logged double-digit sacks in five seasons shouldn’t diminish the impact Clowney makes. Has 53 tackles for a loss since 2016, which is the NFL’s third-highest total behind Aaron Donald (57) and Chandler Jones (56).

Question to #Texans O'Brien on Clowney – "Would you welcome him back?"
His answer : "Anytime he wants to come in and sign the tender, we can sit down & talk and go through all those things. Again, it's all about what's best for the team." @KPRC2 #ClowneyWatch

"It is not a matter of want. It’s a matter of difference of opinion in value, relative to the contract. It has nothing to do with want." Bill O’Brien on Clowney situation. #Texans https://t.co/Kxm9MCPLPz
