I looked this up, not being a comic book guy, but you can tell your buddies that the first of several origin stories for the Joker appeared in the comics in 1951
I agree to an extent, there needs to be an element of him just being crazy..... and if they do it well, we won't know what is perspective and what is real.
That is part of the problem. The Joker supposedly fell into acid that gave him green hair and bad skin. So ANY deviation from that pisses them off. Mind you, some of these are Judges/Doctor's and they are trying to passionately argue with me over a damn comic book movie that hasn't even come out yet.......
I felt like we've seen several origin stories shown or told already in the movies. He was slapped into a vat of acid by the Birdman/Vulture posing as Batman, and something about his wife wanting a smile. How great would it be if Marvel insinuated that the Vulture was posing as Batman for years, plotting to create the likes of Joker and Penguin to take over that universe.
It will be hard to match Ledger in the Dark Knight. He was so perfect in that he just appeared, multiple psychotic conflicting stories, a new take on a look combined with a brilliance and agent of chaos mindset. I loved how Ledger's Joker felt he was just ahead of the curve and that he knew human nature. He was just sinister and evil but funny and crazy at the same time. Masterful performance and movie. I love Joaquin Phoenix but will be hard to come close.
Dark Knight came out 11 years ago. There’s been endless superhero movies since then and this is the only one since then that might give it a run for its money. This one looks to play with your emotions even more than TDK. I’ll be watching this on opening day.
I like Joaquin but I don't think the joker needs another movie. Rather they made a movie off the guy marvel ripped off Deadpool from
If they took Joaquin off and recasted joker with Quinn Snyder, who would say no? Hes about to have a lot of free time on his hands anyway. A different career path could be good for him. Or maybe as 2-face. Damn, he might be the ultimate villain. He would even be a good Cassidy for Carnage. Cross platforming. Holy geez.
What is the demographic of people that read comic books and whine about this stuff being different? I'm honestly curious. I'm 29, I don't think I've ever even seen a comic book in my life, let alone read one.
In the 80's I did not read or collect comics as a youth, but I liked the heroes in cartoons, so I feel like this is actually the golden era of comics. They are very visible now. Whereas in the 80's and 90's I just didn't even notice them.
There is going to be a time when the audience is going to puke because there are so many impersonations of one character. Maybe not now.
