It is totally possible, given our absurdly high # of gun deaths /yr to aim for cutting the number in half.

What a noble goal, however we get there. And what an odd goal for anyone to oppose. “No! You’ll pry ... those hundreds of thousands of dead Americans ... um, from my cold, er, likewise dead hands.”

But B-Bob, preventing me and my loonies from getting AR15's with high capacity mags and thousands of rounds of ammo on demand will violate my god given 2nd Amendment rights! Don't you understand? GEEZ!

@CometsWin , we know how you love your guns. But this new approach could let you keep ALL of that, and even buy more, as long as you pass a universal background check and avoid a red flag of some sort. Great progress!!

It seems like you addressed a lot of points with your post. But how does that address the Hilary Clinton issue?

Could you imagine how many lives they would save if they banned them altogether

Actually, far more lives would be lost if the government banned guns. Criminals would never turn them in and law-abiding citizens would then be unarmed and unable to defend themselves. But the greatest potential for loss of life would be the government turning on the citizenry, who at that point would be unarmed and unable to protect themselves. What's happening in Venezuela this year is a prime example -- the unarmed populace is powerless against the government, who is armed. Read the Federalist Papers -- this was their very concern. For as much animosity and distrust as I read around here about the government and police -- do you really think concentrating gun ownership in their hands only is a smart move? Because that's who would have guns if your proposal was adopted -- oh and criminals too. Yours is a truly horrible proposal that simply hasn't been thought through.

    GOOD DAY

People aren't suggesting that all guns be banned. Do you have a second more relevant take? We know that assault rifles have been banned before. Were more lives lost then?

If you want reduce gun deaths, you need to get rid of small inexpensive hand guns. Over 90 percent of gun related murders are done with hand guns. Get rid of cheap guns with short ass barrels because the only thing they are good for is killing people and often the wrong person because they are so inaccurate.

Which brings us to what ultimately is the goal. Banning all guns and you’re ability to defend or resist. Make no mistake this is the goal, it will start with assault weapons but it will not stop there.

That's ridiculous. No intelligent person wants to ban all guns or even think that's a good idea. The government allows the people to keep assault weapons or guns really in general because it give them the false sense of security. There's no way as technologically advanced this country is that we could somehow take it back with said weapons, it's not possible.

A gun is usually as inaccurate as the person shooting it. These hand guns tend to disappear out of the back of gun shops. The only way that will change is when gun dealers are held responsible for their gun inventories.

I used to work at a flea market on Tidwell about 30 years ago. It was amazing how many hi point 380's they sold for a 100 bucks every day.
