Alvarez will hit 45 bombs over a full season.

Yordan reads this board and learned he hadn’t hit as many singles as XBHs.

    Hope so.

Yordan, eres una bestia. El mejor jugador de béisbol joven que he visto en años. Tus misiles y bombas hacen que las pollas de Castros y Díaz-Canel se encojen como a un niño en un baño frío.

What are the chances of him winning Al rookie of the year with limited plate appearances?

I'd say high if he keeps this up.

Think there is a good chance he wins it with just a small campaign by the Astros. Send an infographic please. But the Astros do have to do something as he is still a little under the radar nationally. He always will be based on first impressions. Think though, most writers will see the truth.

So I did a sort from 1841 to 2019 for 22 and younger seasons, Ted Williams, Bryce Harper, and then Alvarez in RC+ (4th wasn't close so I expect OPS + to be the same). Not sure why tweeter didn't just say Alvarez was only behind Williams and Harper and left off integration era. I don't think being behind Ted Williams is an insult.

By this logic, AL pitchers aren't ballplayers, either.

I mean...., it wasnt all that long ago that we scoffed at a hitter that didnt field. I cant be that mad at him, hes just an old fart traditionalist.

Yeah, that’s idiotic. Is this guy a reporter? But i guess It’s about plowing through the crowded field for people trying to get relevant.

A hit counts as much for Alvarez as it counts for Trout.... there isn’t anything cheap about his production. He might be a baseball purists and loath the DH, but that’s a personal problem and eating at him.

But a DH is nothing like a Punter, long snapper, etc....

Astros have the luxury of fielding a DH phenomenon. Most teams get aging guys who aren’t field worth, but still swing an at least average bat, and take up a lot more of the salary space than someone like Alvarez.

It's really his tone. You can be a traditionalist without sounding like a total *******.

It's not like Yordan is a complete zero on the field. Over the years we've gotten to see some fantastic defenders like Dante Bichette, Matt Stairs, Greg Vaughn, Jose Canseco, Manny Ramirez, and the Giambi bros get tucked away into the recesses of left field, simply because they had something to provide on the hitting side. Yordan is nowhere near that bad; he's just not at the level of Springer / Reddick / Marisnick / Brantley. If we had to play him in the field we could. At this time, however, our outfield is just an embarrassment of riches.
