No doubt, what worries me is how fast things can devolve with the rapid mobilization of people via the internet.
Most of the domestic violence of the past 25 years has been perpetrated by two people or less. I think the chances are, if something is publicized, the response to it has time to organize.
And, you could add the bombings carried out by the Weathermen/Weather Underground of the 1960s. Certainly, there was a lot of violence in the 1960s. But I would maintain that in the 1960s, you still had the bulk of Americans believing in a common "vision" for the country should be. That's increasingly not the case now.
10,000% agreed. I see absolutely zero way of avoiding it. We have NEVER been more divided as a country. Even if this next election does go off without a hitch, Trump will be spouting all over the place "Fake News, Fake News, Rigged Election". Somehow I just can't see him relinquishing power easily.
We have been a more divided country. We've actually been at war with each other. Americans were killing tens of thousands of other Americans over that division. Like in that case, the side of racism is wrong again.
lol you know the dems made a big stink about respecting the 2016 election results when Trump loses and they have never let up since they left with their fake Russian crap. I think they set the tone for anything that follows, sadly.
Fair enough. But I'd argue that even since then we haven't been more divided. There's no way to really measure it. The only thing missing, the only thing keeping us from shooting each other, is the "strong" economy. If that strong economy turned out to be fake, and the economy were to collapse, we're done for. You're definitely right about the racist part though.
Per chance you don't remember Trump talking over and over again about the "rigged" election. Even if he were to lose, I'm not sure he would have accepted the results. I hate the idea of being Democrat or Republican. Politics is not supposed to be a team sport. I'm an American, first and foremost. I hated both candidates. Not really a Bernie fan either.
I remember and that's not a good look for anyone man. I am just saying that the otherside here is that the dems have set a bad tone for losing elections. Trump never lost his election and acted after it. You can't say he would have without proof. You'd need a time machine. This evidence is conjecture. I consider the dems to be setting up their loss too with all this nonstop russia talk. They'll blame them again. They are even calling their own russian agents in some cases. A side note, this thread is stupid. We aren't going to have civil war.I disagree with the people who are too politically charged lately about this point. Unrest maybe but that's a part of life in many places.
Things have gotten better since Civil War times. Much better. There's a wealth of information and people have more context from which to make rational decisions. The media has gotten dumber, however, and use sensationalism to sell. It's also in the face of working people and kids all the time with social media and the internet. So the very liberal media is playing into the hands of the republican "divide and conquer" strategy .. and is a big reason Trump won. Change only comes from how much the middle and upper classes want to give up when it comes to industries leading to global warming (energy, food, resource stripping) , and the subsequent income gap increase the industries lead to... and from that perspective, nothing is changing at all. People talk about black vs white vs brown, but they're too afraid to address the real issue that causes divides.
I see people Saying they want to abolish the second amendment all together so it becomes a fundamental thing where people on the left want to pick and choose what bill of rights suits them and this goes against the grain of what the United States is about you cannot pick and choose what bill of rights you want removed and what you want to keep. The sad thing is there is no common ground between liberals and Republicans and while I don’t think Civil War is coming and makes any sense I don’t see how we come together as a country. No one on the left will certainly do it and no one on the right will do it as well so where do we go from here as a nation when two political ideologies will not budge?
Thomas Jefferson wrote to James Madison advocating a Bill of Rights: "Half a loaf is better than no bread. If we cannot secure all our rights, let us secure what we can”
I'm thinking most of us gun owners aren't fanatics and can at least be ok with getting rid of some of the obvious tools used in these atrocities. I had to destroy my bump stock. I didn't cry too much about it. I too have an extended magazine that I bought for fun but I'll give it up for the sake of peace. Now If you are gonna come around screaming "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" like some lunatic then we're gonna have a problem.
Thomas Jefferson wrote to James Madison via Twitter: "Lol *** u libtard. Get rekt snowflake p***y. #MAGA"
That's the point. I don't think most gun owners would do that but the ones that won't budge are the ones that will potentially hurt people. They've been waiting for this moment their entire lives.
You are blaming the left for the rise of racism and hate from the right since Trump came to power??? You are literally copying the Nazi playbook for blaming the left and the victims for what the Nazis did.
