While I am not a big Trump fan, it seems to me that this tariffs aren't really that bad. China has a ton of tariffs to protect their national interest. However the issue is America doesn't make anything anymore and everything is made in china now. I think there is going to be a lot of pain, but long term it might not be a bad thing. We have a massive service economy which I am not sure what that even means. Ultimately you need to make things. Every one can't just be doing financial engineering as their job.

The tariffs suck (and I'm pretty cool with saying FU to China). I was actually hopeful on trade, but so far, he's been a failure in that regard.

 

Russian's want Trump in and China wants Trump out. If Trump was at the beginning of a new 4 year term I don't think China would be so ballsy. They know they have the leverage and Trump's only chance at re-election is a strong economy/stock market.

Here is problem with US vs China thinking. The US is thinking about a quarter at a time. China is thinking about 10 years down the line. The problem is one doesn't help the other. Dell outsourced pieces of their business to Asus. Eventually Asus eventually realized they were making the whole computer what was the point of working with Dell.

 

China may not exist as we know it in 10 years because their government is centrally strong but in the long run weak. The US is by design not supposed to be centrally strong so it can tolerate the Trumps in the system and still exist. Without the CCP, China as it exists today falls apart. If the democrats or republicans went out of business another party would fill the void.

 

Damnit Trump! I had a big deal going through. If you could have just held off on this nonsense for another week! Cost me a lot of money!

Many of us brought this up early that a trade war was never going to be easy because the PRC has many weapons besides tariffs they can use.
