    Benefit programs usually don't issue cash and i don't understand why people on housing dont receive vouchers

    The article should have done a better job explaining how they converted the assistance to cash. Im pretty sure section 8 doesn't give out cash

    The program where the government pays someone to be a caregiver is a job. But that wouldn't account for all the money this lady got

    The free rider problem is not new. They make up a minute fraction of benefits (which are rarely ever cash) recipients and most end up getting busted like these two dinks. It's political theater to raise hell over a 0.2% rate of fraud/abuse. Further, these two appear to be abusing housing vouchers, so this was likely not cash but something they were able parlay into cash. The fact they had to create multiple identities, forge state documents, and keep up this charade of caregiver/disabled (and still got caught) should tell you how easy this actually is.

    u need to venture out of ur cave sometimes.

    Westminster, CA, is a suburb in Orange County, CA; it was the epic center of the blue wave of 2018

    all 8 of the suburb districts in the OC are now represented by Dems, 6 of them were flipped as part of the 2018 blue wave.

    ... that has nothing to do with districts that swung to trump. You’re trying too hard.

    u can't possibly be this ill-informed

    in 2016, 6 of those OC districts voted for Trump;
    in 2018, the voters there flipped and voted for Trump's opposition

    the Trump party needs to tighten up, cos the suburban voters in the OC are turning against them

    Milton Friedman said it best. The problem with poverty is not enough money. Better to give funds directly and
    increase earned income tax credit so people making under certain amounts pay no taxes and receive a cash subsidy
    annually when filing taxes.

    Then let people decide where to spend and on what and reduce the administrative state controlling and trying to influence
    peoples lives.

    Would poverty related issues lessen if there was a UBI of $1,000 a month for those earning below 20k a year? In theory, it gives people options away from urban areas and direct money allows them to setup businesses away from crowded cities. Rural America has a lot to offer. But that theory is based on the fact there are no underlying issues keeping a person in poverty.

    Another loophole, you could have 4-6 adults / families living in single family homes where rent is high - ish , distorting the entire market.
