We are close enough now where there’s no need to even pay attention to Twitter; watch the box scores (including minors) and when guys start getting pulled then you know something is up.
I still think Ray or Greinke are the most likely. As time passes without any lesser deals, it seems more plausible that deals will be larger or more complex. These waffling teams (Mets) are gonna crap the bed. Arizona’s decision makers have seemed intent on setting expectations to sell. Astros get: SP Zack Greinke RP Andrew Chafin C Alex Avila $30M Diamondbacks get: RHP JB Bukauskas OF Derek Fisher IF Abraham Toro RHP Jose Urquidy LHP Reymin Guduan
Maybe we’re still in for a run of trades...but it seems a lot quieter than in past years. I wonder how much of that has to do with there being a *real* deadline now.
I think the Giants are literally waiting to see if they win their game tonight to decide what to do. They are currently down 2-0 in the 4th.
https://sports.yahoo.com/indians-en...trevor-bauer-by-trade-deadline-000614130.html Even as the Indians make their own mid-season move in the AL Central and toward the playoffs, Bauer’s salary has grown beyond their stated means, and therefore they have at least engaged in conversations that would have Bauer pitching elsewhere by Aug. 1. And, then, if one were to go looking for a pocket of players who least appreciated Bauer’s personality and public observations, the Astros’ clubhouse would be a good start. Gerrit Cole and Bauer, UCLA teammates who went first and third in the 2011 MLB draft, are not thought to be on speaking terms and haven’t been for many years. Then, in 2018, Bauer seemed to suggest Astros pitchers were doctoring baseballs as a means of improvement. Astros players lashed back on social media. And, Bauer and Astros star Alex Bregman have feuded on Twitter. After Bauer taunted Bregman with Bregman’s own bobblehead doll, a grim Bregman responded, “We’re not friends.” Still, Astros management was thought to be engaged on Bauer. First, because Bauer would make them better, extending a rotation of Cole, Justin Verlander and Wade Miley. Then, according to a source, Astros players, including Cole and Bregman, would accept Bauer into what is regarded as an extremely close-knit clubhouse. The sentiment suggests the culture is greater than any one of them, a culture that begins with manager A.J. Hinch. For the Astros, also engaged on Bumgarner, Robbie Ray and Zack Wheeler, among other possibilities that would fill out their rotation, in the final hours until the deadline, hadn’t ruled out that that man, that pitcher, could be Bauer.
You've got a higher opinion of Tucker than I do. Luhnow kept Appel around for 2-3 yrs before he traded him. Luhnow definitely gives high end prospects plenty of chances to prove themselves.
