It's just sad how different people look at the world today than in Mister Rogers' era.

I haven't given that show a second thought for a long time, but there's a sadness in my heart upon reading this. I thought I didn't remember his show as well as others but that mailman, the fishtank, the puppets and the trolley are still there.

It's like the world grew a little colder towards the universe's growing entropy. I genuinely feel sad for the children who will watch McDonald's Happy Hour or Barbies' Britney Spears Project where TV is just TV and nothing more.

I was very sad when I heard about this. Fred Rogers was a great man.

I'll never forget the time that he went to go see Chef Brockett (sp?) and the Chef introduced him to a deaf friend of his.

Mr. Rogers and the deaf man had a conversation with the deaf man actually talking and signing. Mr. Rogers looked at the camera and explained to the kids at home what the deaf man was doing with signing.

It was refreshing to me to see that because most people would probably encourage a deaf person not to talk for fear of people making fun of them; however, Mr. Rogers was showing that this man was like everyone else and shouldn't be judged because of his handicap.

That always stuck out to me....showed what kind of person he was.

I don't think it's that hard to figure out.

Starts with the third letter of the alphabet and ends in ocksuckers.

ding ding ding, good job RM95.

Anyways, he formally apologized on his show today after getting lots of hate e-mail and telephone calls. I love it when right wingers turn on each other! :)

Of course then he started bashing away at anti-war protestors and refused to take any more comments on his Mr. Rogers statement. Damn I wanted to call him up and tell him off! Of course then he'd call me a "loony liberal" like he did on the Donahue show last week.

Once, I was listening to a lecture by a child psychologist and some student in the audience said basically the same thing as Gallagher said and how weird Mr. Rogers was to him. The speaker's response was classic: "YOU are not his target audience."

His message is timeless and I'm certain that his shows will still be airing for my grandchildren because of it.

    RIP Mr. Rogers

btw: anyone think Pee Wee's Funhouse was doing great for kids until the media screwed him.

let's assume Pee Wee didn't like p*rn. if he kept doing Pee Wee's show for 30 years, wouldn't that have been great for kids.

pee wee's playhouse was freaking hilarious...but i don't see it conveying the same kind of message that mister rogers did.

Wasn't his show off the air already by the time he got caught playing house with his pee wee (sorry, had to get it out of my system)? And I agree that it didn't quite serve the same purpose for kids as MRN.
