Playoffs are a small sample by their nature, but since people focus on them so much, let's take a look: Chris Paul last 3 years: FG%/3p%/EFG% 2018-19: 45%/27%/50% 2017-18: 46%/51%/53% 2016-17: 50%/39%/55% Westbrook: 2018-19: 36%/32%/41% 2017-18: 40%/36%/44% 2016-17: 39%/27%/43% Chris Paul just had his worse year, and despite that crazy fluky bad 3%, he was still better from the floor than Westbrook. Here is their Plus/Minus for this past year: Chris Paul Game 1: +13 Game 2: +8 Game 3: -6 Game 4: -8 Game 5: +8 Game 6: -7 Game 7: +5 Game 8: +2 Game 9: +7 Game 10: 0 Game 11: -4 Westbrook: Game 1: -10 Game 2: -27 Game 3: +15 Game 4: -17 Game 5: -4 He was never as much of a drag on his team as Westbrook was for OKC. Westbrook KILLED the Thunder in that Portland series. Lillard cooked him and he was publicly the whipping boy for how terrible he was. He was true "Bad Russ" including taking 31 shots in Game 5 and missing 20 of them(!). The idea that Westbrook is "clearly" better than Chris Paul at this point is silly.
Don't have to convince me. Even if Paul is doing one thing poorly, he can be effective other ways. There were also countless times where CP3 got out of Harden's way until Harden started going a little too hero ball. That's when CP3 started initiating the offense and getting others involved. Let's just hope that when Westbrook is having an off night here, he gets out of his own way.
of course its silly. again all the bad mouthing and criticism wb has had, especially from this board all of a sudden gets flipped within the snap of the fingers is pure bs. he isn't a better fit based on what we've seen from westbrook the last several years. no matter how much people want to make themselves believe.
One of the big problems with Westbrook in the playoffs is that teams have properly treated him like Rubio Rubio. They've sagged off and dared him to shoot 3s.
If you go by pretty much any efficiency metric in the book, you know this trade was just moronic, especially with all the picks we included. The worst part is we’ve taken the best isolation player in maybe the history of basketball and have limited that aspect of his game because Westbrook will be a non-factor off the ball. Rockets will win plenty of regular season games and that’ll be fun, but this was a truly sad trade if you want the Rockets to excel in the playoffs, as these numbers show.
I don’t understand the relevance of the +\- here. At least put the whole team +\- next to it so we can see the players relative to the rest of the team without them.
What’s the point of all these negative threads? Is Morey going to call up presti and ask him for takesies backsies? We get that he’s a less efficient player, is anyone arguing otherwise? I don’t have anything against you @justtxyank but I just don’t get it. He’s a rocket now. All we can hope for is the best. This Westbrook trade is turning into the nba equivalency of the trump presidency. It’s polarizing the board and turning the garm into the d&d.
Availability, and likelihood of further drop off by CP3,(he's lost a step 1/2)I'll take Westbrook and see what happens. And actually, that's what the team is going with...so, Go Russ!
Russ frightening efficiency numbers and 3 straight playoff disasters aside, the fact that CP3 can only give you 50-60 games a season now is part of this calculus.
All this whining has got to stop. I mean, so he is worse, so what? The trade is done. You've gotta keep Beard happy if you don't want him requesting a trade. If nothing else, that's worth it by itself. I personally liked Paul better than Westbrook but what's done is done. Maybe if we play our cards right we still end up winning, and that will all be simply because James Harden is absolutely f'ing brilliant, not because of Brodie.
what was westbrooks? oh that's right, he was sitting at home for weeks bc he got destroyed by a rookie
The main problem with CP now is that any time he plays hard, you are afraid that he will re-injure himself.
I guess you can't estimate Harden's potential increase in playoff output and efficiency if he didn't ahve to huff and puff for 82 games b/c CP3 was out for about 20+ games
Cp3 misses critical games every season in the regular season and playoffs it don’t matter if you not there when your needed and he was bad these playoffs 17-18 playoffs he was good but that’s after the he clearly declined
Where's that for where Paul wasnt there in the final games of the WCFs and missed a lot of games for this past season... asking for a friend.
Oh yeah conveniently overlook the fact that Westbrook's game has never been about just scoring but he somehow gets a triple double night in and night out (at the expense of his bigs). I'm not all in on Westbrook's game or how much growing pains Harden and Westbrook will have to go through during this season. The simple fact is there will be a significant adjustment period and hopefully them being actual friends and former team mates will play a positive factor in Harden and Westbrook compromising for the teams success. I THINK WE GET IT, THIS EXPERIMENT MAY OR MAY NOT WORK BETWEEN WESTBROOK AND HARDEN.
