Money isn't going to be an issue for them. They will still spend wisely but if they want to retain a player then money won't stop them. That being said, GS isn't going to waste money either. If they can remain a contender then they they have the money and they will spend it. If the Warriors suffer a severe drop off then they'd have to think long and hard about spending that kind of money. While they can and will spend huge money on a contender, I don't believe that they'd spend that kind of money on a non-contending team.
They cannot afford to pay the repeater tax for multiple seasons. They are going to get out of the tax this season. Period.

If Fertitta can get a star or in any case put a winning team out there that sells tickets? Tax. If / when no other star comes here? Maybe all bets are off at that point.

Ahhh...common sense. Like OKC having the highest payroll in the league and no real shot at a title? If all the GSW wanted to do is maximize their profits, they would have broken up the team before now. They obviously value winning championships over profits. In fact, most any NBA champion can say the same thing. Winning titles doesn't neccessarily make you the most money. For many of the billionaire owners, their NBA team is their hobby and it's an expensive one. Like I said, if they feel like they can win more titles then they'll spend the money. If they are middle of the road, then they won't. There's a ton of NBA moves made every year that don't make sense as far as profits go.
Couldn’t understand what everyone was discussing and why until I realized Holic started posting here. Can’t see any of his posts because I’ve had him on ignore for awhile now. I strongly suggest others do the same. CF is infinitely better without having to sift through the extra 30% of crap he posts on here. Sure he might say a few things interesting here and there. Common sense says that the warriors will continue to build revenue so they continue to be competitive going into chase arena, which means they will spend whatever money is required to do so. Your take may be valid, but not because it’s common sense. What is the reasoning behind a business deciding NOT to maximize its profits?

Clay got duped into believing they were a title contender with George last season. He paid the tax and is PISSED OFF about it. Presti had been under the strictest of orders to get out of it. And he's fighting for his job as i write this! Presti spent much of the preceding weeks trying to find a new home for Westbrook. COULD NOT DO IT! That's why i kept pointing out that George and Adams were likely on the market. Because Presti could NOT find a trade for Westbrook anywhere that wasn't going to COST HIM multiple assets going out with Westbrook and returning OKC NOTHING. Westbrook's trade value was and still is NEGATIVE!!! The Warriors have to get out of the tax this season in order to avoid a whole string of repeater taxes. It literally adds up to over a billion dollars when you consider the repeater tax over several seasons. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO PAY THAT! THEY ARE BUSINESS PEOPLE! The Warriors are getting out of the tax. Im done engaging this stupidity.
You only spend what is required when it builds revenue streams that bring in more than what you actually spent. The Warriors are getting out of the tax this season. End.
