A key distinction of the Obama "kids in cages" pictures is that these children were unaccompanied minors at the time of their apprehension and we attempted to reunite them with their families immediately instead of deliberately separating them.

That and yeah conditions are probably significantly worse now.

What specifically changed from Obama to Trumps admin to cause the overcrowdedness? More coming in? More being detained? Fewer judges?

 

Yup. And they would actually abide by the 72 hr limit and release them to family in the states or foster care.

Obama didn't seperate families unless the parents were charged with some sort of violent offense.

 

I thought he was the "deporter-in-chief". Doesn't sound like that to me.

How is deporting migrants who went to their court hearing and didn't get granted access the same as detaining children?

 

Deporting humanely is much better than detaining for weeks being treated like animals.

Not one liberal will tell you nobody should not be deported. That’s not the issue here at all.

 

Obama’s admin had to deal with the aftermath of a massive surge that happened during the Bush era with all the post 9/11 high alerts sending migrants here illegally thinking they couldn’t come legally because of the tightening at the border.

There were naturally going to be many who needed to be deported during his admin because they didn’t-

-Come through a port and claimed asylum
-apply for the correct work visas that we should give out when we can
-weren’t paying taxes subsequently because they were without the proper visas
-prove to a judge that their asylum claims were legit at all.

It’s going to be a reality that because there is a massive surge happening now because of Trumps campaign of fear of closing the country’s borders, that the next president... a Dem hopefully.... will have to deport many people from the Trump era.

Let me be on record now to state I am perfectly okay with that. As long as it’s handle humanely, and family separation is taken into consideration on deportations, and these F-ing concentration camps where the cruelty is the point... are shut down. No more private camps with people like John Kelly making money off of cruelty. Get them into a sponsors home ASAP.
