Not saying I disagree, but what who is going to offer him anything and with what money? Seems like an odd waiting game. Right?

Oh i'm with you 100% in that it's odd to play this waiting game. But then again, this is Phoenix we're talking about. Maybe they are really hoping to sign him to an undervalued contract (e.g. $10 million a year?). I can't think of any other reason why they haven't re-signed him yet.

Obviously we're scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point so all the options are flawed in one way or another but here are my top remaining targets for the minimum as of 7/9 (top of the wish list in bold):

Guards: Don't really care for any of them, especially we have a very strong 4 guard lineup with some potentially talented young prospects that should get a shot at leftover minutes (Ponds, Chiozza etc.)
    • Nik Stauskas: Some extra shooting/spacing but bad defense
    • Lance Stephenson: Extra playmaking but inconsistent shooting and potential additional drama
    • Jerryd Bayless: Veteran scoring punch off the bench but sporadic and not much playmaking/defense

Wings: Obviously aiming for the 3 + D players with size to guard the top flight wings in the league but at this price point, we have to settle for high level athletes and hope they develop a shot or shooters who don't have the size/athleticism to guard well
    • Sam Dekker: Still young and has size -- has the outlines of a 3 + D wing but still best known for this
    • Justin Anderson: Athletic and young but hasn't shot the 3 well thus far in his career
    • Justin Holiday: High volume of 3s at a decent % but a bit small to guard wings consistently (also probably will get more than the minimum)
    • Iman Shumpert: Inconsistent offensively/takes long 2s but tenacious on Defense even though he gambles a bit too much for my liking
    • Thabo Sefolosha: Old 3 + D player that doesn't shoot the 3 well and is slowing down on Defense
    • Vince Carter: Still a smart defender and capable shooter -- honestly wouldn't mind him as a 10th man

    Stretch Bigs:
    • Trey Lyles: Young and talented stretch big that was buried under the depth in Denver -- would be my top top top FA target at this point
    • Donatas Motiejunas: DMo for 3 Mo! Has holes in his game but wouldn't mind a return
    • Dragan Bender: Has the outlines of a stretch big and still young -- our flier on Chriss didn't pan out and this likely won't either but he could be worth a gamble at this point

    Rim Running Bigs
    • Tyson Chandler: Veteran big in the Clint Capela role -- would bring great leadership/defensive IQ and proved last season he still has some gas in the tank
    • Kenneth Faried: Rejuvenated his career with us last year but undersized/low defensive IQ and apparently clashed with coaching staff after getting benched in the playoffs?
    • Tyler Zeller: Don't know too much about him but somewhat mobile 7 footer that hasn't gotten too many opportunities -- might be worth looking into

*An earlier version of my list had Glenn Robinson, Alec Burkes, and Willie-Caley Stein and they all ended up in Golden State...shake my head

Stopped reading when I saw Dekker as the #1 option for wings

You're not getting Kelly Oubre at the minimum...who else is out there that can conceivably be had at this point? Obviously Dekker has huge holes in his game but that's the reason why he's available for so little. Still -- he is 6'9, young, and plays hard from what I've seen.

Appreciate the effort in this post. And also highlights the chitty situation the Rockets find themselves in.

Just like Hartenstein, Dekker is not an NBA player

At this point, it might be worth it to try and buy out some guys from the Euroleague.

This is like the first time in a long time where I literally have no F-ing idea what the Rockets are doing.

Thanks man! Was also thinking, we need to be forward thinking (no pun intended) and prepare for guarding the big/athletic wings in the West (LeBron, Kawhi, PG, etc.) Can't rely 100% on Tucker to guard them for 48 minutes. Jeff Green ($2.5m) would've been perfect...but trying to find alternative athletic big wings that stand a chance against these monsters.

Yeah, that is indeed a challenge. And one that they knew would be a BIG issue GOING INTO FA....yet nothing was done to rectify that.

How does one come to grips with that?

Guess we just have to have faith in the front office...I'm sure they recognize the need for bigger wings as the landscape of the conference continues to evolve. Maybe they don't like the remaining options in FA and are targeting a trade that we just haven't heard rumors around? (Wish we got Jerami Grant instead of Denver)

Edit: Not to be a downer but we also missed out on big wings like Stanley Johnson, Rondae Hollis Jefferson, Jeff Green -- all flawed players but at least they have a chance at guarding the LeBrons of the world. (Unlike Gerald Green/Austin Rivers/Eric Gordon)

I think you do know what they are doing, but you haven’t accepted it yet. They are indeed going to run it back. I accepted that yesterday after the J Green signing. I don’t want to accused of b****ing about it anymore. I’ll just root for them as usual and hope for the best.

You should probably keep reading. There aren't many long limbed wings out there and we need a couple. That guy did better work than you have in this thread. Maybe don't be a d--- next time? Maybe?

Kaleb Tarczewski seems worthy. There's gotta be someone out there that is.

I wonder if Zach Randolph has anything left in the tank?

Justin Holiday would be reallllllllly nice here...

6-6 with a 7-0 wingspan. Shoots bulk threes at 35%. Defends like his Bro. Good fit for some wing depth.
