I’m sure there’s a lot of variation on how teams value Whitley. His travails this season could be a huge red flag or no big deal. Either way if Houston still sees him as likely ToR SP he will be untouchable. I am just skeptical that Houston will be able to get the SP they need without giving up Tucker or Whitley. Hopefully I’m wrong and Stroman, Boyd, Syndergaard, Ray, or Bundy will be cheap enough and good enough.
I don’t believe anyone believes Cole or Correa will be with much longer. Cole is off for 30 plus next year and Correa in three. We can replace Correa with our farm.
Stroman in his all star panel interview, just said that he most wanted to pick the brain of Cole Train. Well, Marcus, come on down and you can pick his brain everyday along with our fantastic pitching coach. We'll even throw in Verlanders guidance for free.
Cole: grip your fb like this, right, and you can make it jump up and in to rhb Stroman: what about this grip? [loud stomping noise from the clubhouse] JV: YOU THROW THAT FB AS HARD AS YOU CAN RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE Cole: ....well, but this has worked for me a couple of times in my last inning.. JV: **** you, Cole...if you try to throw that breaking ball again you ****ing canuck I will beat you to death with this bucket of chewing gum Stroman: But now, 0-2? JV: THROW IT NOW
Astros Near zero chance they move Whitley but if they did you can be sure there is a front line starter coming back
On Boyd specifically, Detroit if they really wanted to move should have already done so. Until the beginning of this season he has been a mediocre starter at best, great start to this year but 23 earned in his last 34 innings has his era approaching 4 again Now I’m not saying he isn’t a guy who could come here so great in this environment, in fact I myself have posted he is a guy I would want But he isn’t a guy you give up Whitley or Tucker for just to see what you can turn him into Even Stroman to a lesser degree, up and down career to an extent, think he could do great here, but too many questions to give up a top 10-15 overal prospect for Bumgarner has the playoff pedigree but is a rental, so no Whitley Tucker Now, if the Mets want to talk about a controlled deGrom Tucker, James, Abreu, Fisher, Kemp??
DeGrom was one of 3 guys I thought about when trying to figure who would be worth giving up Tucker or Whitley for who might realistically be available. The other 2 were German Marquez and Marco Gonzales. With DeGrom if NY didn’t pay down any money it would pretty much have to be DeGrom for Whitley straight up, as I’m not sure there’s $50M+ of surplus value on his contract.
Would you give up Whitley or Tucker for Syndergaard? He is under control through 2021..... biut he is struggling this year and has only had one year that he made it injury free.
No. He probably only has ~$30M in surplus value left. I would gladly give up 4 good prospects from the next group though.
It is interesting. When he is healthy he is dominant..... he just isn't healthy enough..... I am split on whether I would give up Tucker for him. A playoff rotation of: Verlander/Cole/Syndergaard/Miley is pretty damn nasty.... I also can send Peacock to the bullpen.
This is me, and I am probably wrong, but I think the Stros have enough to give away in trade without including the Big Two. Look at the JV trade, look at the Cole trade, ummmm....who is out there that would really merit giving one of those guys up? Max, plus a whole bunch of money? Yes, maybe, but who else?
Yes because I don't think Tucker is Nearly as good as Alvarez and Syndergaard with years of control is worth the risk, especially after he works with Strom. I wouldn't give up Whitley, he's hopefully the next Astros young ace. U hope he gets back to the place where he can pitch out of the bullpen by September. Would you give up Tucker for Syndergaard knowing the risk?
If were giving up Tucker or Whitley it needs to be for a top of th rotation guy with multiple years of control. Someone like Taillon would have been ideal. I would consider trading Tucker for Syndergaard. Corner outfielders are much easier to find than a guy with Thor's stuff. This is his 1st season where he will likely finish with an ERA over 3.25. He's been elite when on the mound and could slide in behind Verlander next year when Cole departs.
Some rumors in the offseason but they rejected a deal for Realmuto that involved Syndergaard. I haven't heard anything but speculation about possible trade candidates at the deadline from reporters during the season. The mets are a disaster. The GM threw a chair in a meeting with the manager last week and it leaked so you know the front office and manager/coaches aren't on the same page. I would love to get Wheeler and maybe Lugo if we can't get Syndergaard, but not giving up Tucker or Whitley for Wheeler or Lugo.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/07/latest-on-trevor-bauer.html Astros appear to be “among the most interested” in Bauer
I would love to get him, he isn't a FA until after the 2020 season. Also, I wouldn't be opposed to taking a shot on Gray who is signed through 2022 I believe.
