Berkman is atrocious. I see where the Umps/NY are coming from Marisnick takes a big step into the inside and had plenty of room to his right to avoid Lucroy. Sucks but I don’t think its an egregious call by the Umps/NY
If I understand it right, it sounds like Jake would have been safe if he stayed right in the direct path and even if that meant trucking Lucroy, he’d still be safe. Jake tried to get out of the way, but chose the exact same side Lucroy did. I don’t know the exact rule, so he could very well “by the rules” be out, but that’s such a tough situation for Jake.
The problem is when he makes the move, Lucroy is in the line and he forces the deviation (even though he can't block the plate).

Yeah it's a rule that doesn't account for split second decisions and speed of the game but they really want to cut down on those type of collisions. Oh well.
MLB doesn't want collisions. I'm 99% sure if that was Chirinos laying on the ground after getting trucked most in here would say the runner was out.
It wasn’t as if Lucroy was on the inside the entire time. He wasn’t. He was on the other side and when he caught it, he moved that way, the exact same time Jake did. Jake didn’t do anything to try to hit him, quite the opposite and got punished for it. Lucroy caught the ball (bounced punt obviously) and moved to block the plate.
If Jake would have just kept running straight he would not have been called out. The problem was the move in itself.
Jake chose his lane to the inside before Lucroy did. Anyone who disagrees needs to get out of their own ass.
