I think Scherzer is still owed roughly 40 million in the next two years, then 105 million deferred from 2022-2028. So for 2+ years we would pay over 150 million plus give up Tucker? No thank you, unless the Nats eat at least the 75 million they have deffered so far.
Derek Fisher (poor man’s Tucker, still more of a MLB track record and more big league ready), JB Bukauskas (still has upside), Abraham Toro (high upside 3B), Bryan Abreu (upside P prospect) for Boyd is IMO a fair Tucker-less package.
Who says no? Astros get: SP Matthew Boyd SP Daniel Norris RP Shane Greene Tigers get: RHP Forrest Whitley RHP Josh James RHP Bryan Abreu OF Derek Fisher RHP Brandon Bielak
The Astros. If they deal Whitley, they are getting back a genuine #1 with multiple years of control IMO.
Who would that even be? I cannot think of a genuine #1 with multiple years of control who isn’t already on a free agent contract and/or playing for a contender. Maybe German Marquez?
I think you've discovered the reason Top 25 hitting prospects and Top 10 pitching prospects are rarely traded. The players with MLB equivalent value are usually already on contenders or the other team would rather keep club controlled MLB player for themselves.
If you're trading Tucker for Scherzer it's really like trading Springer/Correa/Cole + Tucker for Scherzer. If we have to decide between Cole, Springer, or Correa to stay under the luxury tax then their money will now be allotted for Scherzer.
I don’t think there is one. Corey Kluber if you are willing to risk his injury? There are not much out there and the guys out there are getting paid the going rate.
I know Scherzer makes a ton of money along with the 100 plus million at the end of his deal, so it would make landing him more than difficult. Not to mention the Nats are winning now. Just curious if you know of the Astros having real interest in him? Have they had discussions? Would they be willing to do a deal if the Nats ate some of that money? The Astros seem to be great at finding that diamond in the rough that has some club control, so I’m doubtful they’d take on MS. I know money is tight and guys will be making more money in the future, but damn would he be perfect on his team.
I was a yes, until I saw Forrest Whitley. LOL IDK how I missed his inclusion. Do not want Norris, very pedestrian this year and every year he's played in the majors, nothing special. Take out Norris and Whitley and I'll take it, though DET obviously won't.
I haven’t heard any connection with him and the Astros this season. I’m sure it is a money issue at this point. The Astros are close to where they want to be budget wise.
