That, and also more experience hitting against lefties, though that area has improved. Making good contact, and, of course it wasn't a hit, but that drive he hit towards Perez (shown in that video) would have been a for-sure double.

Seth Beer is crushing it lately. 12 of his last 16 with homers in each of his last three games.

Good for him, he's ascending through the system quickly. I think he is going to be really special. Remember, he was highly touted out of HS, and had a freshman year so great he was talked about as a possible #1 overall pick. So lucky that he fell to our spot, he was who I wanted going into the draft. Also, noticed RR only has a 2-man bench, since Reed was DFA'd. Wonder when Beer gets promoted to Corpus. I'd say, if he keeps it up, by the end of this month?

Bummer. Hopefully he comes back stronger but this puts him out of the rotation until 2021 at the earliest.

I sure hope Whitley is getting right. I see that he threw off the mound a couple days ago.

    Reposting this:
This sequence of events is very encouraging IMO considering how serious the adjustment was. Even more important, maybe the FO is rethinking the pitching system a little (ie maybe injury prevention/control vs velocity, maybe even mental/flow state prep) given the alarming degree of injuries and lack of control lately.

Abdiel Saldaña made his 2019 debut in the GCL today; he had missed all of this season due to an injury.

Saldaña went 8-2 with a 3.25 ERA in 26 appearances (14 starts) for Buies Creek last season. In 108 innings, he allowed 42 runs (39 earned) on 106 hits (1 home run allowed), walked 26, and struck out 100. Opponents hit .260 against him.

Speaking of the GCL, Yeuris Ramirez and Abraham Castillo have homered so far. Ramirez has three on the season (he hit one in Tri-City) and Castillo went deep for the first time in his professional career.

Castillo signed for $150,000 on July 2, 2017. In Baseball America's 2017 International Review, he's described as having "above-average speed and a near-average arm in center." He shows some feel to hit.

Ramirez signed for $500,000 in 2015, so he's in the same IFA class as Gilberto Celestino and Enmanuel Valdez. BA wrote that he had a chance to stick at shortstop but that was contingent on whether he would keep off the weight that would necessitate a position change. Well, he's now listed as a third baseman. Ramirez has shown decent power, but not much of a feel to hit so far. This year is going to be critical for him.

Franklin Pinto, who signed for $300k the same year Castillo signed, also his his first professional HR. The GCL team has now won 3 out of the last 4 after starting the year 0-5.

Victor Mascai made his 2019 debut as a DH and went 1-3, and Dean Deetz went 2IP 2H 1ER 0BB 4K in his 2nd rehab game in the GCL.

This will be the first time Serrano has pitched above the GCL.

Kyle Serrano didn't get out of the first inning in his first appearance outside of the complex leagues. He allowed three runs (two earned, two were inherited runners that scored and were charged to him) and walked three. Both of the outs he recorded came via the strikeout.

Tri-City is down 3-0 and they haven't allowed a hit yet.

    Jojanse Torres @ Winston-Salem: 6 IP, 2 H, unearned run, 3 BB, 7 K

The run scored on an error.

Rule 5 eligible this offseason, so he will need to be added to the 40 man. I think he ends up in the bullpen but he has very high upside there. Paredes, Abreu, Pinales, and Bailey all have potential to be elite relievers in the majors if they reach their ceiling.
