When was the last time this was posted non-satirically? Daryl, if you're reading this... I hope this thread lights a fire under your cheeks.
Look at the team on the court. Rafer Alston? Shane Battier? Bonzi Wells? This photo is from over a decade ago. The years fly by... Morey has been at this for quite a long time... I wonder if he still has the same passion for it.
Can't question the man's passion. I think he's lost the lead on picking players through models and analytics though. Kinda hard when anyone with their geek cousin can use available data and sift out value players. Different mode too with Jimmy floating GOAT avgs.
Everyone has caught up on analytics and DM hasn’t proven to be completely new out of his league in the human element - be it people he did get, or people he didn’t, or coaches or whatever. Bear in mind he both targeted and actually believe Jimmy Buckets would sigh with the Rockets ... when the guy had LONG been in record that he didn’t want to play with his hometown team. And beyond that if he had signed it wouldn’t have worked anyway, cause the guy is just a nit liked guy and hurts locker rooms. DM couldn’t see any of that
Let's blame poverty, unemployment and the national debt on him while we are at it. And im sure Morey is somehow responsible for the hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and fires too.
We can question Morey's aptitude all we want. We can say that he isn't doing anything and that he talks too much and he overpromises and under delivers. We can clamor for how we wish for a return to that era- when Morey was seen as the smartest, most forward thinking GM in the NBA and took photos like that one, him playing chess, him at some chalkboard with math formulas, etc There might be some truth to all of that, sure. But bottom line the team the past couple of seasons has been undeniably better than the one in that photo. Isn't that what matters the most?
Did I say anything about his performance in that post? There's nothing wrong with losing passion for your work. It's not a comment on his character or competence. It's natural to develop new interests or to get bored or tire of the demands. Especially after 12 years.
You forgot the melting glaciers. He is obviously responsible for that as well. At least we found a crater under the Hiawatha Glacier. Maybe he can find another diamond in the NBA rough.
Yall do know we used all our assets to contend and we did... and we blew it. It just so happens the greatest amalgamation of super stars just happened to occur thanks to an increase in cap room, which royally F'ed the competitive nature of the NBA for years! The warriors were never possible until that rule change and what could we do? Sit and watch like the rest of the NBA. I stand by Morey. I trust Morey. The man has built the best team with what he could and will continue to make the best moves available. People act like he should be ripping off other GM's but that's simply an unrealistic expectation. Also keep in mind Les used all assets to build the team into one of the most valuable because he wanted a contender that he could sell and make a maximum profit. He got his extra star and sold high before riding off into the sunset. I am a bit sad he didn't stay but what can you do? Tillman bought a team out of emotion and hope to make it the jewel of his business crown, while Les made a wise financial move. End of story. Morey has done everything he could to improve things. Morey haters on this thread just dunno what that man has done. This what have you done for me lately crap happens every year or two and then Morey goes and shakes yall off.
For every James Harden, there's a Dwight Howard. For every Eric Gordon there's a Ryan Anderson. For every Austin Rivers there's a Carmelo Anthony. For every Clint Capela there's a Royce White. Morey has plenty of hits and plenty of misses. People need to stop branding him as some kind of genius. He has been a pretty good GM overall, not great, and his legacy has benefited enormously from that one right move -- trading for James Harden. Last offseason and so far this offseason, Morey seems to have lost a step. There's some sort of perception problem here, too, because players should want to come and play alongside Harden on a very good team, but don't. I have to think that has something to do with the vibe this team/management is giving off.
You gotta admit the Rockets have had two bad offseasons in a row under Morey's belt right now AS OF RIGHT NOW
