Barber and Guerrero both off to good starts in the GCL. Excited to follow their progression through the system.
Ton of talent in the GCL lineup. Will get more when Nix arrives. Astros have done a pretty amazing job selecting and developing outfielders over the last decade. JJ Matijevic hit another HR for Corpus tonight.
Matijevic added another homer in the 7th to put us on top 10-8 after trailing by one. Seth Beer also had a homer earlier in the game, his 8th in AA.
Valente Bellozo allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out four over five shutout innings for Tri-City tonight. Angel Macuare got the last four innings and he allowed a run on a groundout, a triple, and struck out five.
Taylor Jones just hit a walk-off three-run homer for Round Rock. He now has 14 home runs on the season.
Miguel Palma hit another two-run home run down in the Dominican, giving him three on the year. He just added a two-run single, giving him five RBI on the day.
Palma, Martinez, and Gonzalez are 3 guys Im pretty excited about. That haul from last July looks great considering the financial restrictions they were under.
The 2017 J2 class has been pretty fantastic on the pitching side with what Tokar, Lopez, Robaina, Cobos, Garcia, Bellozo, Ramirez, Jacquez, and Jimenez have done, but Mascai (who oddly enough hasn't played in the GCL yet) was the only position player in that class to be better than league average last year in the DSL, and even he wasn't exactly dominating while playing mostly 1B. Torres was also signed before that period ended. The 2018 class so far has been pretty much the opposite. Nobody has really stuck out on the pitching side, but the hitting is looking better than last year so far. Martinez is clearly too advanced for the DSL, and he's been hitting for a bit more power lately. Palma is hitting for power without striking out a ton. Unheralded players like Omar Diaz and Andres Monzon are at least holding their own. Considering the restrictions they had, I would think they're happy with what they've gotten so far.
Just a baby for the NYPL at 19 (2.4 years younger than average). He was great in the Dominican last year and has been great so far stateside; another of Luhnow's Mexican signings.
Thanks, that is actually that is what I meant, since Reed was DFA'd and he is the only 1B left on the roster
Tanielu had been getting a little time at 1B over the past week or two. Possibly in anticipation of the Reed DFA?
Awww, man! I'm at the Express game and Tucker isnt starting tonight. Just a game off or is there some other reason?
