As did I. I figure it's just a way for them to get out of paying a claim.

I'm pretty sure it is, unless it was stolen.

Sounds like shitty insurance trying to get out of paying. Hopefully your insurance doesn't take that **** for an answer and gets someone to pay (either the car's owner insurance or if the driver has insurance).

Right after Hurricane Harvey, I stopped at the Exxon on 45 and North Main to fill up my car which was on empty. I noticed that a few random pumps had yellow tape on them and like a dumbass, I got gas anyway. A few blocks from the station, my car went in to low power mode and I had to have it towed. The mechanic had to drop the gas tank and showed me the gas I purchased was mostly water and dirt. I contacted the station, went through a huge run-a-round of people to get to someone who would talk to me. They claimed I was the only it happened to. Said I needed a receipt to prove I bought gas there, which I had. They ultimately refused to pay,

I had to pay 2 grand to get my car fixed. I filed a claim with my own insurance and got half back. My insurance wouldn't even call on my or their own behalf to fight it. Had a receipt for a full tank of gas, a receipt from a tow truck a little while after I left the station, video of a bucket of gas that came out of my car and a mechanic's written statement that contaminated gas was what caused my engine trouble.
