"According to capologist Bobby Marks, in order to make the numbers work the Heat would have to get some two dozen other teams involved in the trade, including Olympiacos B.C. and the Fort Wayne Mad Ants."

I'm not a capologist but the idea that the Heat can trade for $100 million in salary seems to defy logic but what do I know

I’d love to get Harkless for our NGs (Hart, Clark, Chiozza, Frazier).

Would help MIA duck under the hard cap and we’d get a rotation wing for little to nothing

Harkless would fit well here, but i'm not sure about moving Hartenstein and Clark in order to help Riley...

I'd definitely help him out if we can get Harkless or Leonard. A Butler-led Miami team won't make it past the 2nd round of the playoffs.

NGs cannot be used for salary matching purposes anymore.

Leonard makes no sense for me when we have a much younger and cheaper version of him on the roster (Hartenstein).

Harkless is another story of course, he's a solid 3&D with great shooting which plays in the spot where we are weaker, but still...

You're right. I was thinking that you'd guarantee the deals, then trade with MIA.

The guys with some value (Hartenstein, Clark) could be routed to a 3rd team, who would take them on for free.

Chiozza, Davis, and Frazier would go to MIA. Total, they make ~$4.5 MM. Harkless makes $9 MM, so that $4.5 MM difference in salary would help MIA duck under the hard cap.

It still requires salary matching and that doesn’t work based off what you listed here and Miami still need to trade someone into space. We have none.

By my math, it should work for all three teams involved.

Houston would send out $7.46 MM in salary (once we guarantee all 5 NGs). We can receive up to $9.42 MM in incoming salary, and Harkless makes just under $9 MM.

Miami would send out $8.9 MM in salary and receive $4.5 MM (Chiozza, Frazier, Davis). Roster spots are irrelevant in the offseason and Miami is receiving less money than they are sending out, so this should be legal too.

Third team would be taking on Hartenstein and Clark, who are on such low deals that another team would easily be able to take them in via TPE.

    Am I missing something here?
