Heard this guy on the radio this morning talking about this. He is a pretty involved sportswriter for Mavs and Cowboys. Total douche though. Anyways, no way Rockets trade Capela and Gordon when technically the only "haul" is Jalen f'ing Brunson. You kiddin me?

Capela and Gordon could easily be traded in separate trades and Morey should be able to at least get a 1st round pick for each of them. I would also assume Philly would rather have a 1st round pick or two instead of Brunson. I understood his premise and he makes it seem like the Mavs and Rockets have actually discussed something similar to this but to include Capela AND Gordon in this trade is just ludicrous. There has to be better sign and trade scenarios out there with Celtics and Kings even. Not enough return for Philly either unless like he says, they get a Trade Exception that they can use to then sign a high salaried free agent.

One last thing, to call this a "firesale" is wrong IMO. I think Morey knows what he has with this team and is still confident in them contending even if we don't get that third "star". He is not just going to dump Capela and Gordon to the first team that will take them off his hands. He has to feel like we are getting equal value. Yes, we get Butler essentially for Capela + Gordon but ideally he can finagle 1 other asset out of this even if it is a 1st or 2nd round pick due to Capela and Gordon's value around the league.

Leave it to Clutchfans to now massively under rate one of their own players in Clint Capela, who played the entire playoffs sick as a dog.

They forget about the footwork and the jump hooks with either hand when he is healthy and involved. They forget about the spacing he provides by sprinting rim to rim better than anyone in the NBA without ego, opening up shooters all game long. Every season he has improved. 24 years old averaging 17 ppg, 13 rpg and 1.5 bpg, under a long term reasonable contract with his kind of work ethic and attitude.

(Drafted and nurtured by Houston, for Houston. Shame on you guys...)

Man, if I could like this twice I would. Guys just need to appreciate our players more in general.

Is there a universe where we could end up with Jimmy Butler, Jaylen Brown and PJ Tucker?

yeah i understand he doesn't match up well with the warriors, but the guy is basically the perfect modern big in terms of willing to to PnR without complaint and ability to switch on small guys on defense. and he makes like 16M a year when chumps are getting 20+. but if klay comes back healthy, the warriors might still be the best (or one of the best) in the west and clint doesn't help against them. but we will need someone to guard AD.

I just find it hard to believe the Celtics would move Brown for anything less than a star. They wouldn't even offer him for Kawhi last year.

Clint will be an allstar after we trade him. Ainge knows.

Clint will never be an all-star, imo. He can still be very good, but not all-star potential. Debatable he will ever see better stats than he had last season playing with Harden.

You and I could probably be all stars in the East.

Yeah and his chances get that much worse when all frontcourt players are lumped together rather than a center position by itself.

Fair point. If Drummond can be an all star in the east, I suppose it is possible.

My guess is the Celtics in a 3 team trade would give up Smart and a 1st round pick (probably their own) for Capela, maybe a sweetener like Williams or 2nd round pick/s.

Smart would end up in Philly (i think they already had interest in him in the past) with a 1st rounder (from Boston or Houston) and Gordon, the Rockets would get Butler and a sweetener or two from Boston, maybe their 1st rounder if they send their own to Philly. But yeah, i don't really see Brown being traded now, although you never know cause they drafted a SG and they still have Hayward on the roster..it's just that i wouldn't really expect him to be involved, unless we let Ainge keep the pick/s and maybe add some sweeteners in the deal.

    Agreed.

Though reading McMullan's new article it makes it seem that Brown was a lockeroom cancer so Ainge might be more motivated to trade him away fast:

On Jan. 9, the Celtics blitzed the Indiana Pacers in Boston, then flew out that night to Miami, arriving at the team hotel after 2 a.m. on Thursday. Boston was set to play the Miami Heat that night, but, team sources said, that didn't stop some of the young players from heading to South Beach, where the clubs stay open well past 5 a.m. It's not uncommon for NBA players to go out when they're on the road, but Irving was irked teammates decided to do it in the middle of back-to-back games.

The Celtics ended up submitting a lackluster effort in a 115-99 drubbing at the hands of the Heat.

During a timeout in that game, a testy exchange between Brown and veteran Marcus Morris, who was angered that Brown didn't hustle back on the defensive end, was captured on video. Morris admonished Brown to "play harder" and shoved him before Marcus Smart quickly intervened.

I don’t think he needs to take a jump on talent to make it, he has a bigger skill set than we let him use. Trust me. His work ethic is incredible. I see him at workout classes every summer. I hear about him living in the gym. He’s eventually going to go to a system where he’s asked to do more than roll and dunk, he’s an underrated passer and ball handler. He just needs a certain comfort level.

Depending on what happens on FA, not so anymore.
Now if both Butler and Kawhi leave for the West some posts will be more open but there are TONS of players much better than Capela.
