the video and interview with jen gennai is disturbing but as others have mentioned it comes from a questionable source. i'd like to see the unedited video of the restaurant conversation including the questions so that there is a little more context than "we won't allow 2016 to happen again"

It is. Sub reddits are practically quarantined or closed all the time. It's not some uncommon thing, it's really more of a surprise that T_D took longer. No one sees that side of it, they got away with things that smaller subs did not. The amount of members is not an excuse to not uphold their own rules also.
IF a major silicon valley company gets caught with strong evidence showing they are trying to influence an American election in favor of democrats, it will be fascinating to watch the same group of people who hemmed, hawed, denied, overlooked and excused the current President benefiting from the aid of a hostile nation, go absolutely apesh*t over a private American company doing anything remotely similar.

The Donald's moderators have been in trouble with reddit moderators basically since Trump got elected. They've been warned like half a dozen times and have gone through very short temporary bans. They were playing chicken with Conde Nast corporate governance trying to bend the clear rules, miscalculated, and drove into a brick wall. They also have a severe, severe persecution complex, and whenever they've been warned, they've tried to portray themselves as Jesus on the cross, with reddit as the Pharisees or some such. It's honestly kind of embarasing how much they whine about being mistreated over and over. I'm glad I don't have to see their posts in my feed anymore.
it's definitely conjecture The_Donald is the largest and most influential pro-Trump community on the internet. Of course Reddit would love to shut it down if they can find a pretext. They all hate Trump and hate that their platform is used to promote him. It's starts with Alex Jones, then The_Donald. As much censorship as they can incrementally get away with. I predict Candace Owens is next on the chopping block, she's too popular and threatening. I expect we will soon see any criticism of illegal immigration or radical Islam classified as hate speech and a bannable/censorable offense on these major platforms.
Let's suppose all this is true. Why do you have a problem with it? It's completely constitutional for companies to police their own platforms and dictate what they allow and don't allow, so what's your libertarian issue with companies exercising their free speech? What if Google wanted to just plaster a "Trump is evil" sign over their entire website and block all conservative websites from their search engine - why should they not be allowed to?
Everything you just wrote is conjecture and makes no sense. If that subgroup has a million members, I seriously doubt reddit wants to shut it down. This idea that tech companies would rather punish conservatives and push a liberal agenda over making profits is very strange to anyone in the business world. If anything these companies compromise their values and don't follow their terms of service to make money - not the other way around. If people are using a channel to promote violence - that is not freedom of speech. It's something very dark and very illegal by the way.
