Right. I get why your suggestion works for Houston. I don't see how it works for Butler though.

If you bet $100 dollars you get $100 dollars (so you end up with $200)

no. it means whatever amount you put down you would get the same amount back on top of it. as opposed to being underdogs like everyone else listed on that tweet as of now

If Butler is content with the gamble, it gives him the best chance to win the championship next season. That’s how it works for him. Plus, it’s not like $20 million is chump change. Obviously, it’s not $190 million or $140 million, though.

If Butler is truly afraid he might suffer a career-threatening injury next season, he should secure his long-term max contract now.

Is Houston + Butler - whatever they give up in that trade scenario really a better chance at a ring than the Sixers young core? I don't think that's clear at all.

    Everyone is getting too excited.

We need to remember that players don’t want to play with James Harden.

Plausible only if Butler opts in. Then it is Capela to Boston. Gordan to Philadelphia. Rocket 1st, Boston 1st to Phili. Butler to us.

no idea who that person is in that tweet but it makes a lot of sense for boston to want to get capela, especially in the likely scenario they're going to lose horford. someone who doesnt command alot of touches and allows tatum/hayward and possibly walker to be the primary options offensively

Harden, Paul, Butler, Tucker and either Gordon or Capela is better than Embiid, Butler, Simmons, Harris and Redick. Harden is the best player in the group, the Rockets have the better defensive team because they aren’t playing Redick, and Chris Paul is still better than Ben Simmons at this stage of their careers.

Plus, Butler wants to play with guys that take basketball as seriously as he does. Harden, Paul and Tucker fit the bill. Embiid (doesn’t take nutrition seriously) and Simmons (two years in the league and he has done very little to address his shooting weakness) don’t.

That's a VERY Houston-colored glasses take on things. I suppose anything's possible though...

Plus, can you imagine Tuck and Butler wreaking havoc on the defensive end together? I’m salivating at the possibility of seeing this.

It’s not about either or, it’s not that simple.

PJ has those Championship intangibles that are so important to a team. Especially when you’ll most likely be losing important depth to get Jimmy here to begin with.

I would start by bringing in young vet min guys like Richaun Holmes who's a better fit in the offense and Marjanovich on vet min contracts to get some size on the team to begin with. There are plenty of vet min guys out there who can do what Capela gives them and while I love Tucker he's really a depth guy who should be playing 25 mins a game coming off the bench.

To put it another way, how many teams have won championships with a 6'4 PF playing 35 mins per game?

This tweet from Bill Simmons screams "my team's FA plans were ruined, I don't want other teams plans to succeed."

Can't wait to see a Woj or Shams tweet that says:

Philadelphia are in advanced talks to send Jimmy Butler to the Houston Rockets
