Things never change. It's impossible for the voting in Texas to ever change.

Kid? LOL... I'll be 61 in a few weeks. You must be in your 80's.

Speaking of moving goalposts... national polls attempt to forecast popular votes... not electoral votes.

Yep.... along with the statistical notion of “margin of error”.

It really isn't. All the major cities are blue in a sea of red.

Polls have always been a thing.

Trump has to win Texas, and I would be shocked if he doesn’t care The Lone Star state. I can see the margin being lower than most expect but I can’t see him losing Texas.

    Texas, purple? No. Next question.

I think Beto hurt a run against Cornyn with his presidential run. He looks weak. Maybe he can get past it.

Cornyn isn't as weak as Cruz was, but Cornyn has the Trump effect working against him. And Dems always show up for Presidential years in far greater numbers.

Beto dun goofed when he went for President. The field is insanely crowded with far more qualified candidates. He needs to change course immediately.

Cruz is weird. He's unpopular with a lot of people but the people who like him love him. Does anyone love Cornyn? He seems like a run of the mill establishment senator. He may not have the negatives that Cruz has but I'm not sure anyone is showing up to enthusiastically vote for him either.

You're definitely right. As boring as Cornyn may be, he has a lot of seniority (9th longest serving Republican, 19th longest overall) in the Senate. Texas voters may not be so prone to just tossing that guy out given the clout he has for the State.

It definitely comes down to how much enthusiasm Beto can retain vs. how bad the Trump effect will be. Republicans didn't show well at the 2016 polls in Texas, and even worse in 2018. If that trend holds, 2020 could be a real turning point.

Yeah that's my point, I agree with you. I don't think Cornyn will goose the turnout. It comes down to how Texans turnout for Trump vs how Democrats turnout.

I feel like for Texas Democrats the best outcome is a Biden candidacy with Beto running for Senate. Biden wouldn't hurt Texas Democrats, Texas Republicans wouldn't turn out to kill a socialist and Beto might have some juice left to inspire at the polls. I'd still make R the favorite, but I think that would be as close as it could possibly get.

Beto running for president has been a disaster.

I'm not sure anyone in the current Democratic field will goose the TX Republican turnout. Trump doesn't have the Hillary boogieman to fall back on.

Maybe Warren or Bernie. Maybe. But I think those knives cut both ways. They may both inspire D turnout as much as R.

Texas aint purple …. Just the simple fact that almost everyone finds Trump to be a despicable sum b!tch , even if they like his policies.

If the Dem Nom is Biden , he'll win Texas and its game over. No more Orange Idiot.

Next election cycle, it'll go back to the GOP stronghold that it has been for decades.

I don't know. I think a true socialist would be a good boogeyman for Texas Republicans (and Republicans everywhere.)
