I wonder if the want to do away with state primaries as well — going to a national , all-at-once primary.

Then they’ll never have to fly to Iowa again or pretend they care that half of Iowa is currently flooded.

Just like Trump, @glynch has to pretend that Hillary is still running in order to make his case.

I think we are saying the same thing. Bernie has big ideas and will fight them knowing that he will lose. Warren has a way of actually getting things done and a record to show for it.

While Biden goes through his Hamlet act and issues non-apology apologies, and Bernie hires professional trolls to fight a skateboarding punk. Warren rolls out a break-up agribusiness monopolies/ Farm assistance plan.

Pretty much squarely aimed at Iowa.

Again, I repeat, if I'm a policy lite democrat with a B in my first or last name, take her ideas if you want good ideas.

Discussed at length in another topic, but I'd like to see the EC votes better balanced to state populations. An EC vote in Wyoming is worth almost three times as an EC vote in California, for example. I understand the purpose of the EC (protect rural and other non-urban states from being being outweighed by urban states), but since so many shifts in populations have happened it seems that the non-urban states now have too much power.

It's usually women that are the hoarders. Probably goes back to evolutionary psychology. :D

Oh and all of those are *horrible* ideas.....

What's horrible about breaking up large Agribusiness monopolies, for example?

The result of mergers and expansions is immense market power. The top four meat processing companies have 53% market share. The three big chicken companies have 90% market share. The two biggest seed companies, Monsanto and DuPont, had 71% of the corn seed market in 2015 — before Monsanto merged with Bayer and DuPont merged with Dow. According to conservative estimates, the newly merged Bayer-Monsanto by itself will control “more than 37 percent of the U.S. vegetable seed market” overall, and will control more than half of the market for some vegetables.

Mergers mean that farmers have fewer and fewer choices for buying and selling, while vertical integration has meant that big agribusinesses face less competition throughout the chain and thus capture more and more of the profits. The result is that farmers are getting a record-low amount of every dollar Americans spend on food, food prices aren’t going down, and agribusiness CEOs and other corporate executives are raking it in. The CEO of the Chinese group that owns Smithfield  —  a massive meat processing company  —  made $291 million in 2017 alone
This is all textbook economics. Market highly concentrated, prices going up, monopoly rents being extracted -> it's what the Sherman and Clayton Acts are for. The DOJ and FTC should do their jobs, first off, but Warren is right to call attention to this.

I think Warren or a Warren disciple should be made head of the FTC - not a glamour job but that is where the real work goes on in preventign markets from becoming uncompetitive.

Eh, it could be debated either way. But I would wonder why the market evolved as it did, such that those few large agribusinesses came to dominate the scene. I'm sure agri-industrialization had something to do with it.

But, I don't take it as a given that many smaller businesses are better for the market than a few big ones. Maybe yes, maybe no. I bet it could be argued that a few large agri-businesses can deliver cheaper goods to market, and that's a lot of what drives our political economy. In fact, that was the reason for the "trust-busting" in the early 1900s -- that "monopolistic" companies were gouging consumers.

Mainly, I wanted to get in my joke about Warren and her incessant hoarding. :D

Upon rereading this thread- I've decided that it's time to take action.

$20 headed for you, Ms. Warren.

That's a paltry sum for good ideas, but know you that there's more Jacksons where that came from

Hey, that would be a good job for Warren, but I would let her pick the person to head the FTC as she is more valuable as a politician, whether in the Senate or possibly as VP in the Sander Administration.

For the record, I like Warren and contributed to her first Senate campaign, but do not see her doing that well in the 2020 presidential race, though as you emphasize she has good ideas.

Should have just posted in my thread instead of making a knock off. As a voter you need to forget about Trump, he's laughing at you, and start promoting Warren to people in swing states/counties. that's Texas. large agribusinesses don't allow farmers to profit , don't produce healthy food and bully the voices of people who work the land. It's a lose lose for everyone except the very top. Be proactive, get on the phones, make trips, do something useful with your life.

Liz isn't the worst candidate. So she has that going for her.

Still ideating, and now winning. It makes sense that Warren would do well with higher information voters with whom Bernie Sanders struggles.

I Want to Live in Elizabeth Warren's America

Yet, deliciously, Warren’s substantive approach is yielding results. Her plans are so voluminous that they’ve become their own meme. She’s been rising like a rocket in the polls, and is finally earning the kind of media coverage that was initially bestowed on many less-deserving men in the race. Warren’s policy ideas are now even beginning to create their own political weather. Following her early, bold call to break up big technology companies, the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission are dividing up responsibilities on policing tech giants, and lawmakers in the House are planning a sweeping inquiry into tech dominance. Warren’s Democratic opponents are now rushing to respond with their own deep policy ideas; Joe Biden’s staff seems to be pulling all-nighters, cutting and pasting from whatever looks good, to match Warren’s policy shop.

You might think I’m getting too giddy here. You might argue that policy ideas, especially at this stage of the game, don’t really matter — either because the public doesn’t care about substance, or because it’s unlikely that any president can get what she wants through a partisan, rigid Congress, so all these plans are a mere academic exercise. Or you may simply not like what you’ve heard of Warren’s ideas.

Still, do me a favor. Whatever your politics, pull out your phone, pour yourself a cup of tea, and set aside an hour to at least read Warren’s plans. You’ll see that on just about every grave threat facing Americans today, she offers a plausible theory of the problem and a creative and comprehensive vision for how to address it.

I agree, big time. Have to get someone like her drive and smarts in the cabinet. And since she is in a reliably Democrat state, elevating her is safe. I also like the idea of a "cabinet"... have to give that one more thought, but one that is a no-brainer (if she doesn't get the nomination or VP nomination) is Kamala Harris for AG.

She could head a number of different agencies (She would be qualified for Finance, Education, & Housing, which would be a nice change from the current administration...). Question is whether she would want them over her Senate position and those corresponding committee positions.

Warren is the only politician with plans. She doesn't need the ideology BS Beto uses when she can whip out details. Happy to see her getting her respect.
