Oh yea, I hear ya and so does every HST sports fan over 40. It’s somewhat pathetic but we have a certain understanding and comradeship of our unlucky history and the unexplained luck of other cities.
Finally won a game with some breathing room, Pressley needs some rest. I know we have some tough roster choices, but Straw in particular is really forcing the issue.
Straw REALLY needs to stay. Fisher is doing great, he's just upping his value as trade bait. With all both Tucker and Alvarez coming soon, and of course Springer, Brantley, Marisnick, Reddick, and now Straw still in the mix, no room for him. He deserves to be an everyday player somewhere, and it won't be here. I think he'll look nice in Tigers colors (hint hint).
Rangers lost too. (ALMOST pulled a stunning comeback, but thankfully the O's held on). They were in 2nd, creates more space. Wish KC and AZ won as well (because of who they were playing), but you can't get too greedy. I'll take today's results all the way!
The team speed is amazing right now. At one point, Straw batted, then Jake, then Fisher. It's crazy how we're winning despite the injuries. Everybody is contributing and they're displaying multiple tools.
Straw > Fisher as a player right now and in terms of upside. Tyler White won't last, obviously. This current squad is running hot but it shows what a dynamic and talented team we have this season.
West coast games always get the worst of me. Right at the end of the 7th inning, I switched to the radio broadcast in my bedroom next to the wife. I wake up at 3:30 am in the living room sofa with no recollection of the last 2 innings, how I ended up on the sofa and no idea how the stros added 4 more runs. Aliens!
The roster cuts are going to be ridiculously hard when everyone gets healthy. You almost have to trade a guy like Fisher in a package for a pitcher. If Straw shows be can play MLB level short stop, he’s not going anywhere. I hope Kemp is able to stick. Imagine if AJ put him at 2nd base in Boston instead of jerking around with Yuli. Basically.... Alvarez for White Correa for Straw or Kemp Altuve for Mayfield Springer for Fisher Diaz for Rodgers
Glad Fish is getting some love. Seems he's hitting high 4S FBs this year which was a big hole for him. Astros may give him a couple more weeks to see if he's truly solved his K issue. I expect some regression, but he's got some room to regress and still be a good player. Mayfield, White, and Gurriel appear to be the weak spots.
Yuli imo has lost a step. I was hoping like hell we could have landed Goldy. Someone mentioned earlier in the season that Yuli is getting good contact and they expect him to start picking it up. I hope he does.
It's almost like a 1980's team playing on Astroturf. I know it's highly unlikely there will ever be a 100 steals guy in this era, but Straw sure looks like one that could lead the league. As far as Straw being the one to stay...they should give him a full game at SS. If they're comfortable with it, they can send Mayfield back to AAA and bring up Alvarez this weekend. Once people are healthy, though, they'll have to make a decision between Straw and Kemp. I really think the writing is already on the wall for White.
His .808 OPS for 2019 while good, would make him below average on our team (.827). http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/_/id/31027
