I thought he had a chance until I saw the replay from the other angle and you could see that the ball was continuing to tail away from him giving him no chance to get to it

I immediately cursed then started laughing heavily. My wife was like why were you pissed, told her because that should have been inning ending double play.

This would be true if LeBlanc was pitching.

Did they show LeBlanc being pissed in the dugout?

He is probably thinking about when Smith didn't catch the single by Reddick.

Talking about the Reddick single that led to the 4th run (play before the throw home to no one). LeBlanc had a McHugh/Gomez-like reaction on the mound.

I think I just laughed and rolled my eyes VERY hard. While the Astros are putting up some of the best defense I've ever seen, the teams they've been playing have simultaneously been putting up some of the worst defense I've ever seen, and this was just piling on.

Immediately after that play, a surprisingly-sadistic part of me actually wanted us to give up just one more run, so that play would be the deciding factor in the game.

So the top candidate for the spot start today appears to be Andrew Moore and his 11.31 FIP/12.98 ERA in AAA.

Yesterday's game was an indictment against the spot start. LeBlanc dominated the Astros lineup. While we will never know, based on what we saw last night, pretty sure the Astros would have had a difficult time scoring 3 runs in the first off of him.

Are you referring to the opener instead of a spot starter? If so, the Mariners have given up more than 4 runs in every game Leblanc has started, and given up only 4 runs in the one game he's had an opener. I wouldn't call that an indictment.

Edit: Granted, small sample size means very little, much like how pitchers use to stare at the dugout every time a ball was hit in a gap created by a shift.

The catcher ****ed up, not the SS.

As far as Mallex goes, he is very fast, he just has minimal actual baseball skills.

Will we recognize anyone in tonight's lineup?

Yes. Denny Walling is playing third and batting cleanup.

Definitely for the best. I really believe in Martin, and as we need to point out, he was only the 5th (I think) 2017 draftee to reach the majors. He reached the majors pretty fast, and just a month ago was taking AAA by storm. Still needs some polishing with his control, look forward to seeing his line in his next AAA start. He better not be traded, I think when he comes back in about 2-3 months, he'll come back strong. I like his stuff, he just showed that his promotion was a little premature.

Hopefully he's part of a package that will bring a contollable SP that can help bring another championship to this city.

And his name is Mallex. Poor guy.

I don't think the SS was entirely snow white in that scenario, but I'd agree it was mainly the catcher's fault. When I saw the ball hit, I knew it would be a tough double-play to pull off. In fact, I'd bet they don't get the out at first if he does try to turn it. Still, as catcher, you can't just autopilot over to backup first when there's a guy at third. That's a Martin Maldonado level move.
